News: Latest Patches

I updated it to a version from June but it is still not working. I restarted and downloaded two different ones and installed and restarted and... but nothing..

Will I ever be able to play CIV again??? Please, tell me the truth.

All of this installation carnage is making the dual install approach look pretty good.

Maybe the way to approach all this is to upgrade with the patches, start a couple of games without the HOF mod to be sure that step worked, then try to install the special SGOTM 05 mod.

Do we have any HOF mods yet for 1.74 or 2.13? If so, do they work? Is it the special SGOTM 05 mod that is problematic?

Sadly, this advice is only for those who have not yet tried the update. Sorry that is won't be of any help to you, Lehm

I'd be surprised if any of the above relates to the SGOTM 5 mod. It had not even been mentioned in this thread as far as I know. Are you having problems with it?

Yes, we do. There is both a 1.74.001 and 2.13.001 version. Follow the HOF Mod link in my sig.

Edit: Looks like I don't have the link in my sig. I'm on the work computer which blocks the HOF Site, so I can't get them for you. Follow either the Rules or Tables link to get to the HOF Site and than click the Mod tab on the left.

No, I won't be attempting the upgrade until tomorrow, as for some reason, Best Buy here thinks the release date is 7/25 (or at least that is when their shipment comes in).

Some of the error messages or behaviors posted reminded me of some I saw when I did not have the latest HOF mod installed and tried to load an HOF game needing the latest mod. I was mostly asking about the SGOTM 05 mod not because it was mentioned (it was not, as you noted) but to try to rule it in or out as something I need to consider as problematic.

My plan is to very carefully create the backup folders, install from the BtS disk (includind the latest direct X which should be there, right?). Then see if patched vanilla, warlords, and BTS all run before trying any HOF mods. Then get the "normal" HOF mods for the patched versions. Then run games with that. Finally, add the SGOTM 05 mod.

If something goes wrong, I'll have some sense of what is the cause.

I wasn't able to get to Gamestop before it closed today...and the guy I talked to at Walmart didn't even know what Civ4 was  so I've got to wait until tomorrow...luckily, I'm off from work for the next two days. :D

D3DX9_32.DLL is a directx9.0c file

update directx9c to a version from april 2007 or later to fix it

I downloaded the patch for both Vanilla and Warlords from the in-game advanced menu and experienced the same DLL error. Downloading the April 07 version from the microsoft website didn't help matters.

I then downloaded the D3DX9_32.DLL file (from www.dll-files.com, after a google search...) to the windows/system directory.

Vanilla and Warlords now start to load - but then crash during loading with an 'Error loading shader libraries' Init Error

HELP!!!!!!

EDIT: PS - the problem is definately not with the SGOTM05 mod

EDIT2: Ok - resolved the problem! This link to the CFC Civ4 technical support thread is very useful. The link in Gyathaar's post in the tech support thread (post number 3) resolved all the dll issues for me :thanx:

Big_Pig: did you try running this

Dual install is done without incident (have yet to add the newest HOF mods and the SGOTM 05 mod).

I'm test driving getting to the old 1.61 and 2.08 saves

I don't know if it works, but you could try dropping the saved game file onto a shortcut to the correct .exe in order to get it to launch the right one.
Turns out this won't launch the save, it just launces the start menu for the game. However ...

So will go into the modified old folder to launch warlords. Then I will have to choose a mod. Then I will have to restart the game. Is the restart smart enough to restart the old execuatble (the one I am currently in), or will it want to restart with the newly patched version?
Turns out it will start the old executable and load the mod, then the save folder shows the games under the old patch and that mod. Or if you open the old patch version and load the old game, it will restart to load the old patch game, with the correct mod.

So the double click on the save won't work, but opening the old patched version will get you to the right mod for an old save. :goodjob:

I am puzzled.

Clean new install in a new machine. Install Vanilla, no problem, I can play the unpatched version. Choose Advanced-Check new patches and it says "Correct version. There are no new versions at this time" inmediately. Well, my mistake, turn on my internet connection, try again, same message, only this time it took longer to display.

What's the problem???????

Do you have any internet security on? I have to turn my Norton off in order to get mine to update.

Oh, now that you mention it... Using company's IPseq link.

:goodjob: Thank you very much.

Sorry to bother all of you again.
If this is not the place to ask, please forgive me and move my question elsewhere.

This new machine is a laptop. It can run the game but it can not start a new game, when the map is about to be showed a video memory error takes me to desktop.

I have set the ingame option to low level resolution graphics. No animations, no movies. Is there anything else I can do, wheter to the game or to the laptop?

Taking part in Major14 is looking less and less likely.

Did you update your directx9c? There are links half a dozen posts back.

Yes, I did, the game wouldn't load without that. Now the problem is video memory.
Is it a Vista or XP OS? May not be the issue, but just for completeness.

Do you know what video card the laptop has? And in the game starting menu, if you go advanced > about this build, what version are you patched to?

Are you saying that you could run unpatched vanilla and 1.61 vanilla OK, but not 1.74? That would mean that the 1.74 patch added video demand? Does that make sense? If I switch to my other computer, I can post a link here to a good reference site on video cards.

addendum: here is the link to the video card info site ... the 7200 is the one I had that I had to abandon.

Thank you dV.
I took a laptop with Windows XP PRO SP1 and video card "trident video accelerator v6" with 32MB that never had had Civ in it.
I loaded Civ, the patch, the directX thing... till I was able to launch the game, versión 1.74.
Then I press "play now", everything goes right...until the initial position has to be shown. Then Civ4 closes and an error message appears, saying something like "not enought video memory, try reducing graphic level".

Could you try to start a smaller map, say duel size?
