PC Zone UK has posted 9 NEW full screenshots and some new videos from the game this morning.

The screenshots look much more refined than previous screenshots. Some of the changes reflected in these screenshots are the better-looking interface boxes on the main map, gray color map grids, and new images for the advisors. I sometimes need to disable the map grid in Civ2 because those bright white lines are not very nice to look at, but I don't think I need to do that in Civ3 anymore because the map grid looks so neat!

The new videos on the page included a video of Sid Meier discussing CIvilization III and some new unit animations. Unfortunately those links don't seem to work...

Well, now that the settlers show the city grid they'd make if they build a city, that gets rid of my main reason for leaving the grid on...So I'll probably turn it off...but it does look nicer.

In one of the pictures a river goes through a mountain in a way it shouldn't...it's rather disturbing...i hope that gets fixed before release...

The more I see of the fog of war, though, the more I like it. It's subtle enough not to get in the way, and lets you know where crazy stuff might be going on...a bit less darkening might be better, though...

Hey, the population icons in the domestic advisor screen look like civ2, not previous civ3 city shots! Has it always been like that?

Is that last one from a wonder movie or something? The Apollo project perhaps?

All in all, i like the changes.

I like the looks of everything also. I noticed the crazy river. I was able to get the 'warrior death' movie to play which was very fluid.

Other things I noticed were new city improvements/wonders such as Solar System, Grand Cathedral, Trading Company. Also Epic? and Forbidden Palace?

I'm a little vague on the purpose of roads to resources. I was under the impression that after building a road to a resource all cities connected by roads would have access to the resource which I assumed to be infinite. But since resources of the same type are clumped right next to each other and they always have roads to all of them, I guess you can 'harvest' a certain amount of a resource per turn based on the number of deposits you have roads to. The only reason I mention this is because of trading with other civilizations. You would have to think twice if providing another civ. with ivory cut into your own people's supply. Also maybe you need a horse resource for each city that wishes to build horsemen. Can anyone clarify that?

I always use the city grid. I get too confused otherwise and everything looks disordered. I prefer the screenshots with the grid turned on even. I do like the gray to white and the use of colored borders.

Roads and rivers going ontop of mountions and not behind them kinda destorys the 3D model. I too hope that gets fixed. I wonder if you can zoom in and out like in civ II. All the shots seem from the same view point.
The civs them selves look clustered kinda smashed together.

Other than that it all looks good.
There may be a few bugs they are still working on. One page showed that the cities were taking 9999 turns to build things, kinda odd.

Some interesting things I noticed the cities building in the screenshots.

Solar System
Grand Cathedral
Forbidden Palace
Trading Company

Maybe trading company is the same as the stock exchange but I saw both Cathedrals and Grand Cathedrals being built so they are different. October is a long time away.

Those screen shots look great!!!

But the videos don't work.

I managed to download 5 of those video/animations this afternoon, and the rest at night. Uploading them to the download server!!! I'll post links to them here in 30 minutes.

UPDATE: You can download the videos in our Civ3 videos section. The AVI videos files are temporairly unavailable because the file server has database errors, but you can download the same animations in GIF format at
http://www.civfanatics.com/civ3videos.shtml

The GIF animations have nearly the same quality and have smaller file size.

Get them quickly in a friendly GIF format at http://www.strategyplanet.com/civilization3/animations.shtml

Just a note, the GIF in my sig is a low-quality thumbnail. The ones on my site are a lot nicer.

The roads look very strange. Some of them are bigger than others - is that because it is the "main road" between cities or is it upgraded?

But Civ3 looks better and better and I can't wait for October

. Maybe I'll get it as a birthday present, my birthday is the 4th of October (but that might be too much to hope for)

I couln't get the movies to play at all. Anyone else have this problem?

But the screenshots look very nice. I just can't wait to play. I know it is only about 3 months away but it seems like 3 years.

This all looks really good with the exception of the roads. The roads on the mountains look awful and the roads have been layered on top of the special resources rather than the other way round. The roads are also too thick and don't look realistic at all.

Thumbs up for the irrigation though, it looks a lot better than on some previous screenshots.

I think I read somewhere on that site that the roads grow with use. So busy roads between cities would grow wider while other roads stay small. Interesting... I wonder how wide you could make a road. I'm sure they are aware of the problems with the mountains and resources. It is one of the few things I've found wrong, so I'd hate to harp on it.

These screenshots look a lot better than the old ones. It's still hard for me to read the city names, though, and is "Iroquoiss" supposed to be a possessive or a plural? Either way, I hardly think so. I hope they'll fix that.

I like the way it all looks. It won't ruin the game for me if roads/rivers float over things. What is important is gameplay, the AI and the diplomacy model

It would be very helpful if text on the map could be customized. ie for size, color boldness.
