Never explicitly tried for a Cultural Victory before, so might give one of the test games a try first. Anyone had a go?
Well - just finished greatbeyond's very enjoyable test save, aiming for a fastest-possible cultural victory, and some learned some pretty valuable lessons. Despite founding 4 of the 7 religions and building most of the world's wonders, I wasn't producing culture anywhere near fast enough in my

capitals, and after turning off

after Nationalism (for Hermitage and Taj Mahal), eventually got taken down by cannons and grenadiers sometime in the 1800s, still nearly 100 turns away from a cultural victory (with all cathedrals and available wonders and

buildings already built).
Some of the lessons learned from this game:
- cottages for the

capitals are essential; wonders and GA specialists just don't produce anywhere near enough

- teching Liberalism for the +100%

and +2

from towns is probably essential as well, and maybe democracy for the extra cottage growth with Emancipation
- neglecting mid-game military techs (rifling, steel) is a dangerous game!
- building wonders with an industrious leader, and beelining to found religions, isn't that tough on prince. Multiple Great Prophets from all those wonders really helped with the religions, and I also missed only 1 of about 10 wonders that I started to build.
Also discovered that linking up resources on islands doesn't work unless you actually have a city on that island. Just making sure that the resource ends up within your cultural boundary isn't enough...
One final surprise - at some point after building Parthenon, I noticed it was giving me +20

Anyone understand this? I thought it was meant to give only +10

(which I think it may have done initially)... ?
