So does anyone have any idea when Firaxis will announce the next expansion or have any thoughts on game changing concepts it will include? For example, vassal states in Warlords.

I know some of you are angered by Warlords and think it was a rip-off. Please don't make this into a I hate Firaxis/Warlords thread. I liked it and was happy with it for $30, though I understand your viewpoints. Hopefully, the next expansion will satisfy you. In any case it's been a bit more than six months, since Warlords was released so I expect we should start hearing concrete information rather soon!

Since Warlords was all about warfare, I think the next expansion should be about peaceful features. I just posted a thread in Ideas and Suggestions about some peaceful features I'd like to see incorporated including Embassies, Philanthropy and Sports.

I hope they will release an expansion which will focus on some of the weaknesses of the game: Modern Era, Naval Warfare.
About the xp i'm sure it will be released this summer.

For me Civ3Conquest was a huge success with 7 new civs new resources, new wonders scenerios new ways to rule etc. So It was a complete expansion not like Warlords. I can still remember the scenerio of WW2 PAcific Theatre . I played it with all civs (japs usa netherlands etc) . But in new ones I can't play them wiht different civs. I mean for exemple in Rise of Rome I won't choose any civ instead Rome and the same thing for Mongol scenerio. They aren't as exciting as the ones in civ3conq.

A Firaxis official said in the Civ4 C&C forum that they are working on the next expansion. They would be stupid not to, btw, given that Civ4 was a huge success. I wouldn't even rule out a third expansion this time, depending on how sales develop.

Nah... Civ IV *Very* special edition...

I'm looking forward to any expansion coming out. I hope paratroopers get added in with appropriate AI for them, and have the AI go for alternate victory conditions.. Other than that,... whatever surprises they pack in I will like, I am sure. This game franchise is one of the FEW that has not let me down big time in recent years...

Would any new expansion released be able to be played simultaneously with current expansions like Warlords? Or is it one or the other? I'd rather have cumulative additions rather than having to choose. How did it work in previous Civ games?

PTW didn't add a huge amount to C3 other than (not great) multiplayer, so Conquests was the more significant addon. They were cumulative IIRC, so you needed both for all the civs. Could be wrong though. I'd be amazed if the second addon didn't go on top of Warlords if it's installed, so that you can have both sets of features. The practicalities might be tricky but it seems daft to have the addons play separately unless the content is entirely separated from normal games, which seems unlikely.

I just hope the bulk of the work going into this expansion (and any others that might come down the pipe) is on the core game, not scenarios. They make for a decent enough distraction but there's not a one that holds my interest the way a nice long Marathon game can.

I agree wholeheartedly. I'd much rather see a deeper game than simply a variety of new ways to play it. But I'm biased - I don't play scenarios :mischief:

Personally if they do have one it better have tons of improvements and not just feel like a mod rehash.

They will do the same of what they did in CIV3..First expansion not so good, second expension Really nice.

Or at least its what im expecting.

what you want and what you expect is 2 different things
what i want

civ 4 :civil wars(civil4 :D)
a expansion which adds civil wars to the game and with scenorios like the the english civil war, american civil war, spanish war, collapse of rome, that type of thing.

or/and

civ4:space colonisation
a exp whichhas 2 more eras, alows larger maps so in the game you can have different planets(2-3 each ?)and space like the way sea and land is implimented

what i expect

better sea units
more promos
more civs ,leaders
2-3 uu?
unique national wonders

From what I've heard, the likely expansion is going to revamp spies and diplomacy, and the Firaxians were asking online about what kinds of things would make modding easier (where the code was located, implementation, that sort of thing).

More than likely, they aren't going to add space colonization--it would be a first for a Civ series, though. Before, they just made a separate game that picked up where Civ left off--Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. A truly stupendous game. Promotions, Civs, and leaders, though, are highly likely if not guaranteed.

My list of expectations follows (and they might not be met, but whatever):

Privateers
Paratroopers
Armored Cruisers (between Ironclads and Destroyers)
Tactical Nukes
Nuclear Submarines (to carry the tactical nukes)
~10 or more new civilizations (I won't bother to list them all)
~20 leaders (at least one for each new Civ, Abe Lincoln, and 9 others for single-leader Civs)
More kinds of Aircraft
Promotions for Aircraft?
~6 new wonders--put the Statue of Zeus in the main game! Just make an animation!
Why not add Leonardo's Workshop back to reduce upgrade costs?

I agree with most of u here. Warlords is about warfare the next expansion is hopefully about diplomacy or culture or that kind of thing.
I leave warlords for what it is and looking forward for the next expansion!!!
And put the Dutch civ back in the game!!!!!

That's just what I was about to say until I saw you already said it :P I would also like to see a stability system implemented to bring about civil war, like in Rhye's and Fall of Civilization.
