It's not completely wrong. It's only slightly less than Earth. The biggest problem is it's atmosphere which is losing water vapour... we need to find a way to stop the losses :(

It probably has no fossil fuels :(

Isn't then colonization of Venus much more feasible?

Isn't Venus a tad too hot?

Bright Day Stormbind

It is 0.37g. Almost one-third of Earth gravity, that is not really little difference. Venus on the other hand has something like 9.8xg

Isn't Venus a tad too hot?

As it is now yes, but central Australia is tad too hot too. I have not proposed open settlements, completely different, they would have to be enclosed- under shell or under ground. Also there are many possibilities about the temperature of Venus. I am too lazy to go searching for all facts, but what I remember. Volcanoes heat up Venus, clouds serve as lid that does not allow heat to dissipate, chemicals in atmosphere...

I should probably start new thread, shouldn't I?

Venus is scorched with a surface temperature of about 482° C (900° F). This high temperature is primarily due to a runaway greenhouse effect caused by the heavy atmosphere of carbon dioxide. Sunlight passes through the atmosphere to heat the surface of the planet. Heat is radiated out, but is trapped by the dense atmosphere and not allowed to escape into space. This makes Venus hotter than Mercury.

^Yup that and volcanic activity
Actually we CAN do something with CO2, but the action would not be economical nowadays

No one. Global warming will get us first.

It might be a country who has oil and has enough firepower to keep it.

Of course! They use their Nokia batteries to kill everyone not living in Finland who has a Nokia telephone.

These last incidents were just experiments and there were actually people in Finland pressing a button when it happened!

But if you're really not joking, please elaborate, Lifeblood.

In terms of potential, I would say China too.

Russia is too mired in problems.

I am sure people will be thrilled at the return of being dragged away in the night to gulag, and living on grass soup.

The EU can only hope to be a superpower if it abandons cultural borders and increases in population.

A nation filled with brilliantly logical ATHEIST minds. How can we ever lose? Add me into the equation (eg. get me elected) and I will beef up the military and covertly subjugate Sweden. If my cousin Lena in Stockholm is reading this then congrats on the baby. :p

But seriously. Nokia phones are wired with neural disruptors. When F-day comes you'll be turned into a Finpeon and start drinking Lapin Kulta and SMSing like crazy.

Venus day is a week long, try terraform that away.

I don't understand why so many propose China as the next superpower and noone India? Which are the diffferences? India is a democracy, isn't that beneficial at all?

At the moment China surpasses India but we are the worlds biggest democracy, and do u know which company employs the most people in the world? India Railroads 10 million people. Than we have our own Silicon Valley in Banglore or somewhere around there. Also our economy is growing and by 2027 predictied to be the worlds 3rd biggest ecocnmy.

I suppose you're right. India does have good potential to become a superpower, but China has a larger military. They say they're trying to cut back on military spending, and or good reason. The last figure for mn in the military I read was 2.2 million!

Oh I forgot mention were a nuclear power and our military is also around a million give or take. We have plenty of modern weapons bought for France, Germany, Israel, and we used to buy from Russia don't think we do much anymore. I think were also trying to become a permnant member of the U.N.

You might not have realized this, but we already have superpowers out there. From a purely military standpoint, America is the only power. But economically, Japan, to an extent Germany, and soon India and China, we are not alone. The only thing that can defeat our military is our economy.

I read an article recently about the EU becoming a superpower, and I got the link from this site, I'll try to find it...
