Nfl 2006

Wow. Interesting.
Givens and Branch gone. That doesn't leave a lot of depth to the Patriots WR corps. I don't understand Seattle's motivation though. They have Jackson, Burleson, Engram, Hackett and now Branch. I wonder if they're concerned about Jackson's health.

Oh yeah btw....Da Bears. :p

Unfortunately, your archrival is New York not us. :crazyeye:

I could never understand that.

My rival is certainly not the New York Football Giants, its the Dallas Cowboys. Giants may make sense geographically, but it just doesn't work that way. The anger isn't really directed at Cowboys' fans in Dallas, its directed at Cowboy fans in the Delaware Valley. Its an anger that built up during the days of the NFL blackout where people in Philadelphia couldn't watch Eagles games on TV so they decided to become Cowboy fans. A 2002 poll of Philadelphia found the Cowboys to be the most hated team in the city. But they were also the second most popular football team (one in 12 in the Philadelphia area are Cowboys fans!).

I should add that the fact that TO plays for them doesn't help, but I think that makes me hate TO more, rather than Dallas more.

There's a great article that describes the rivalry (which is a one-sided rivalry, I'll admit) and explains why it is. But its nine pages and not online, so I'm not sure I feel like typing it up. But I will finish with this quote:

"They got labeled 'America's Team.' Out players didn't much like that. Then, the Cowboy's started being televised everywhere, every week. You'd see them on TV with the cheerleaders and that Coach Landry and their smug attitudes. That stuff made us hate them more.
You know, I've got nephews here in Philadelphia who became Coyboys fans. That's rediculous. I try not to invite them to my house."

I'm from Long Island, but I live in the Philly area, and that is certainly a one-sided view you got there. There are Philly fans everwhere, but Washington is my enemy team. They are my team's archrival, and they always will be. You guys are making yourselves sound like Houston (They think that they are our rivals!). Don't do that to yourselves. You have a history with New York.

Yes, and my rival is the Cowboys, but don't worry, the Giants and Eagles are close behind. :p

We have a history with the Cowboys too. I just finished typing it up, so my hands are really tired, but I'll post it so you can read.

this is awesome dude  i couldn't have said it any better

and sure Philly's got a rivalry w/ the Giants. however, we hate the cowpokes. it's true. :woohoo:

You might want to check out my other thread. Its a long read, but definitely worthwhile.

Its from "The Great Philadelphia Fan Book" by Glen Macnow and Anthony Gargano and will show why Philadelphia hates the Cowboys so much.

Okay, first half thoughts:

Defense: Very good.
Sean Taylor: 2 huge hits, including a monster block.

Offense: More Lloyd needed.

We would be killing you if troy Williamson could hold onto a pass:mad: dropped 3-4 big plays where he was wide open.

Brad Johnson is neither pretty or fancy but the old man can still run an offence.

Think Jerry Porters days are done in Oakland? Last night he was caught laughing and cheering when Aaorn Brooks was sacked the 7 th time--good way to get your a$$ kicked in the lockerroom.

wow - he ain't worth a #1 imo. i know the eagles were sniffing around a few weeks ago and from what i gathered, the pats were asking for too much. he's a mediocre WR at best...
mediocre may be a little harsh. he's a legitamate #1 (maybe 2) reciever who runs great routs and knows how to exploit a zone. if he builds a rapport with hasselbeck like he had with brady he could do well for himself. that being said, he's hardly irreplaceable and certainly not a top-tier reciever like he's come to believe. it may get a bit tough if the pats have reche caldwell and troy brown as their top 2 recievers; but with watson and graham at tight ends, i think we'll manage. anyway, 2 first rounders was way too much to ask, i'm pretty happy with the outcome, the pats draft well, and we've won a super bowl with our #1 reciever out when terry glenn was suspended for the 01 season.
how about new england's game winning safety? buffalo must be agonizing over going for it on 4th and 1 inside the 10. those 3 points they missed out on kinda would've made a difference.

naterator,

well, w/ all due respect, branch has never had a thousand yd season nor has he ever caught more than 5 tds in a season. couple that w/ a few seasons in charlie weiss' offense and here you have an overachiever. that, to me, seems like mediocrity. and 2 first rounders for that dude?! that's grand larceny imo. sorry man. he ain't even worth a 1 first rounder imo. i'm surprised the seahawks bit on that one...

Plus everyone knew they HAD to deal--wait the Pats out

The theory is that Branch has always been in a system that shared receiving duties, which is why his numbers are low. Seattle's owners feel a lot of urgency to have another crack at the Super Bowl this year. Those draft picks won't help them win this year, but Branch could. With a solid QB and Running game the weakest part of Seattle's offense is it's receiving corps. (And after last weekend, maybe it's O-line. :()
