Nicaragua canal plans

The chap who wants to build the canal says it's natural for people to be somewhat anxious when a rising power like China does big projects abroad. He also says he's not in bed with the Chinese government, but he does consider himself a patriot. And all nations can profit from the good spirit and win/win China spreads around the globe...

But it is. That's why GM chose to liquidate Saab instead of let a Chinese firm buy a majority share and keep the company alive. It's why people still go to the Dutch when they want to build levies and landfill in other countries ;)

And yet GM is the biggest, or one of them, within China itself. Buick is the premium brand for the Chinese consumer.

Those poor people. Why Buick of all things?

I didn't even know Buick was considered a "luxury" brand.

It's not, here. Back in the day, up through the 60s and into the 70s, at any rate, Buick was the move up 1 step below Cadillac. Of course, that changed over the years, and Buick became the car of old people (at which it's doing fairly well in the US). Many Chinese came to like it just because it was a large car that was very "American" in style.

I think it's an environmental catastrophe. That's my only problem with it.
