I've owned this game 16 months and finally built a PC I thought could run it. An I5 2500k with 8gig of ram and a AMD 6970 running the latest catalyst drivers.

When I go into the video options the only res listed in 1280x720. This is with both Directx9 and 11.

Someone please tell me there is a fix for this. I've looked in their knowledge base and had no luck.

It's 2012 and PC gaming is still aggravation and ripoffs. :(

I've gone into full-screen and voila!, there are the other screen options.

But if I try to play in directx11 - it locks at the first screen.

Directx9 works, but offers no anti-aliasing.

So I have a $350 video card with 2gig of ram and can't turn on anti-aliasing? Welcome to 1995!

This is old news I'm sure, but still frustrating.

... it locks at the first screen.

What does that mean exactly?
Game freezes? Game crashes/doesn't respond? Whole PC freezes? In any way, check your temps.
Also: Are you sure it's not the widespread "graphic driver has stopped working and has been restored" problem? Could it be that your Graphic card was already overclocked by the manufacturer?

Cheer up, it can always be worse. My nvidia card just died for the second time on me. Neither card was more than 6 months old... :(

Civ5 runs 1920 by 1080 for me in DX 11? I am running an AMD Phenom II quad core with an AMD 5770 on a 24-inch LCD, so less horsepower than your system.

Do you have your graphics card and monitor set for 1920 by 1080 as your normal resolution? The game seems to use the graphic settings of your system, so your system must be capable of this resolution for the game to use it.

I remember Crysis had a "best" quality option that was only available on DirectX 10 (maybe it was 11), but people would alter the text files and "best" would run just fine on DirectX 9 if your PC could handle it. Wouldn't surprise me if Civ V had a similar mechanism, just arbitrarily disabling certain combinations on DX9.

I guess the link a couple posts up is your best bet for this game.

My previous machine could not run DirectX 11, and could only run under version 9.

My current machine has no issues with DirectX 11.

my machine doesnt so much have Direct X 11 issues so much as certain games do. I have just generally gone with 9 to avoid the surprise lockup, particularly games that were patched for 11 when 9 was only available when they launched. 11 has been a lot more hassle for me.

most of this comes from my laziness and not being willing to find the fix that does exist. and my eyesight isn't super awesome so some of the details arent that big of a deal to me.

The game freezes. I have to go into task manager to kill it, it says it is 'not responding'.
