No Capital?

I was playing a Regent game as the English, and had something rather odd happen.

I had been dealing with the Russians, who dared to live on the same continent as me. I sent a horde of Cavalry into their territory and took a couple towns. But they got Riflemen before me, and between them and the Cossaks, I was overextended. I'd signed a MMP with the Aztecs to pull them into the war, but before they declared I had to sue for peace. I payed Catherine off and started to rebuild and crank up my tech.

I was still in Monarchy, since I'm warmongering. I'd gotten Nationalism and upgraded my musketmen and got Communism. The turn after I go into anarchy, the Aztecs declare on the Russians, which forces me to declare as well!

To make things worse, I'd pulled all my reserves in the last war and not had a chance to replenish them. They sent up a couple of ships loaded with cavalry and took my capital!

That's the weird part. No city popped up as my capital. I presume that this is because I was in anarchy and pretty much all my cities were shut down. As soon as I got Communism I cracked the whip and took my capital back, but the palace was gone. I had to rebuild it :(.

Anyone seen this? Is this a bug or done by design?

Yeah, actually, me too. If you had no corruption, I would have continued playing w/ out a capital.

I still had corruption, maybe it calculated from my forbidden palace? But then I was Communist so its hard to say.

Sorry, I checked my Autosave and it didn't grab one. Wish I'd thought to save off a copy.

I loaded an older save of a PTW SP game and made a revolution. I abandoned the capital (for the record: in same turn as the revolution was called out) and the palace jumped correctly.
So anarchy alone cannot be the answer to this weird observation.

What version are you playing with? I think this was a bug in the non-patched vanilla Civ3. Also, make sure your palace didn't jump elsewhere. A save would be nice.

i personaly don't believe this, your sure it didn't go to your forbddden palace city , did you zoom to check?

Is it possible that your palace jumped to some desert island?

It could have been that I missed it, my territory was pretty big by then. At least now I know - if you see something weird, keep a save! Might want to post about it on CFC!
