help! there is no coal in my game! the map was made randomly by the computer. and it is the industrial age. I cant build trains or factories! Is this some kind of bug or is this somthing else.

If you are playing conquests resourse appearance has been reduced by 1/3. Make sure it is not under cities.

no, I'm playing the origanal civ3 with no patchs.:( :( :( :( :(

There's an Faq in this site that answers this question. Try playing with more opponents. Btw what version do you have? Did you get Civ3 recently?

Chances are bad luck. If you are on a tiny map wit few civs less resources appear. Also If your territory is small chances are higher of missing out on important resources.

the map size is standard. I have 7 opponents (8 with me) (well, I destroyed one so now there are 6).
my civ is the biggest in territory (culture too).
I have all the terrain that supports coal.
I checked and no other civilizations have coal. my version is 1.07.
I have reloaded many times.
I have 3 sources of iron.

Perhaps one of the AI have it. If they have extras, you can make a trade route and trade your money or a tech to get your coal.

No, I think he means there is no coal in the game, period.

GeZe, this is probably a bug, and you should probably restart.

Btw have you researched steam power? Because if you didn't there's the problem right there;)

I'm half way thrugh the industral age! (yes)

Ctrl+Shift+M will let you see the map without cities, units, etc. Makes it easier to see the resources. Coal is one I often have trouble locating especially if it's in a mined tile.

My dad had this problem awhile back. The coal was on a one square island in the VERY corner of the map.

oh and dont quit just because of this. YOu can still win and have fun. And coal might even appear in a hil or somthing near you.

Actually, I think you've got a fun game. Nobody able to railroad makes countries very hard to defend as you can't move defenders around all your cities. This will get very interesting with high speed maritime transportation and also paras. When invading, suddenly building airfields is going to be crucial.

There is also no point in building hospitals as 20+ cities are out of the question, so you might as well space your cities OxxxO apart or even OxxO and limit their growth to 6 and 12. In fact, you may find that many of your larger cities are going to be coastal - once you've given them harbors. So do add more cities in your centre.

You probably do not want to be in Democracy, because you can't get the population bonus and you are going to need lots military to defend your cities - so this looks like Communism and / or Republic.

Okay wait let me get this straight. GeZe, there is no coal in your game, period (none on any map square what so ever?) or you just don't have any within your borders?

I wonder if his AI opponents have researched Steam power themselves; if not, then they may have it, but they wouldn't be able to trade it. Which would suck, because then he'd either have to attack one of them to get some, or gift them the techs up to steam power...

Its gotta be there. I've heard of this happening on C3C, but I've playing Vanilla and PTW countless times, and have never seen this. I still think its under an AI city.

I quit the game and started a new one. The new game was made with a computer generated map but has a striking resembelence to the UK islands.
