No futher patch

Since the SDK or however its name is comes with the new patch, maybe they are artificially delaying the release because mods would be able to mod the game up to a point that you won't be willing to pay money for the Warlords expansion.

I always though, if this games is gonna be so moddable, How are they supposed to sell expansions? They have to be much, much better than the mods free ones.

I was thinking the same thing. :crazyeye: :nuke: :nuke:

I wonder how much of the fanbase Firaxis has already lost because of all the issues...

I think they were betting on losing a percentage of the existing fanbase to be replaced by greater numbers of new fans who like to look at shiny marbles.

I, for one, think they made a HUGE mistake not making the game with a lower graphics version that would work on most laptops... this is the road warriors dream game... airports, hotels, in the back ofthe crowd of boring presentations by slack-jawed half-wits.

The maps in my sig were created so that i could play the game on my laptop... they worked for me until 1.52 (maybe you might have better luck), but i hear that there is a patch coming out any day now

Although I was never a nay sayer and am very happy the patch is out, the arguement could still be made (and watch it will) that it took SO long to come out.

Not to mention I give it less than a day until we see the

"v1.61 doesn't work" When is the next patch

Well this is welcome news. I was just checking my messages, I didn't realize the patch was out until now.

And there probably won't be another patch, so anyone who can't get the game to work should look at their computer configuration to figure out why it doesn't.

Well, to all the whingers out there, I have to say-I TOLD YOU SO :p. If you have a look at all of the changes and fixes they have made to the game-not including the fact that this patch also had to include a PROPERLY WORKING SDK and PitBoss-then you can see why (a) it took so long and (b) why it took longer to get out to people than Thamer had initally predicted.
I hope then that-in future-all the nay sayers will believe people like Willem, Warpstorm and myself when we say that, though they are not perfect, we DO believe that Firaxis has the interests of its fan-base at heart-and are not merely trying to screw us over!

Oh and, just a couple more things. First of all I have to say that I am REALLY glad to see that they have opened more features to python, as this was a major complaint regarding my civics and specialists mod (I am hoping that specialists can be made to effect unit build times) though I wish they had done the same thing to XML!
Secondly, given that I have so many SUCCESSFUL games running under 1.52, it looks like I will need to run multiple versions of Civ4 again-a 1.52 and a 1.61! :crazyeye:

Anyone want to bet there won't be another patch?

C'mon round two for this thread. There is still potential life in the old girl after everyone has had time to gloat.

OK, my view is that-UNLESS there are still major gameplay/technical issues still plaguing a sufficient number of players-there will NOT be another patch until Warlords is released. To me it seems like all of the major issues have been dealt with, and anything left-or which may still be revealed down the trac-are much better fixed within the context of the expansion. After all, its only 4 months-at the latest-until the expansion gets released (Summer release=anywhere from June to August-but I predict an August release!)

I am debating if it is even worth the money as I am restricted to PCI standard.

I can help you out here. The answer is no...sorry.

Your system is not upgradable anymore (not play games at least).
Save up for a new one, DON'T throw good money after bad.

Yes, well, they are trying to sell as many games as possible...
Also, the requirements for CIv4 weren't that high, let's not kid ourselves here.

Just a thought...

Then why bother bringing it out in the first place.
You're slightly overestimating the influence and usage of mods here.
Yes, some of them will turn out to be popular among the incrowd ( both here and at Apolyton), but the vast majority of players will never ever even bother to install a single one. They will stick to official ones and expansions. Heck most won't even know of the SDK, or even that there are any (good) mods around.

Yeah, 1.61 didnt really do anything for me which I kind of figured. No real let down here. But at least now I know. My next system will probably be a priority in another year or so. I can wait as that gives warlords and any following expansions plenty of time to come out and price drop anyways. Which actually works out perfect for me as I was planning on letting them price drop anyways. As for if another patch will be out before Warlords, I doubt it as well.

My arguement was never on "the patch is taking so long" but more to "I think Firaxis/Take2 had a bad attitude on keeping paying customers updated." I think that was most of the gripe contrary to the title of this thread. I was never a "conspiracy theorist".

In relation to the actual patch: I started a new game to see some of the new features. I did like the chop nerf in the game as it didnt effect my personal playstyle much as I am an anti-chopper. I noticed with the patch I am doing better than before even in my Monarch games. With chopping cut down, the computer suffers from it more than previously as their "bonuses" dont reap more from it. Or at least that is how it seems to me. I may be taking more shots at emporer a bit while I am checking it out.

Does anyone know if the Battle odds were affected to take first strikes into account?

How do you mean? The visual thingy? I think so, yes.
Wasn't it fixed in 1.52 already? Can't remember to be honest.
Not that it matters all that much as it's pretty rare. Also note that it is just a visual thing, it doen't affect the odds themselves.

Unless there is a major problem, I'd really, really doubt it.

Yeah like the % thing. 4.00 vs 3.3 = XX.XX%

I never trust archers odds. It was said a while back the the odds are off when first strikes are concerned. I can understand them not ever being accurate with them as the promotion of first strike give an archer their automatic 1 plus a chance to have a second one. So, the percents will never be accurate as the second one would be random in that case.

But I am curious as to say an archer with strength promotion on him vs an axeman with strength promotion, if the % will be accurate. As the archer is garanteed 1 first strike so the outcome is able to be determined more accuratley as there is no random ability involved. Hopefully, that makes sense. :crazyeye:

Wow, and I know how (patiently) you were waiting to play this...

Actually I was waiting to see if the patch would solve graphics issues I have. It didn't but now I don't have it in the back of my mind. I can also quit insisting on coming onto the boards hoping there is news of it. Now I have finally been dealt all 5 cards and can play the hand I was dealt. Turns out I am folding.

Using this analogy, I had to constantly tap the dealers shoulder and say "When are you gonna give me my next card?" and was told "Soon" over and over and over and over and over and over again. (It gets old fast) I needed a face card and I got a 10 of diamonds. Close but no cigar. But at least now I can quit waiting. I waited 3.5 months for that card checking a couple times a day. would have been nice if the dealer would have said something like "Check back at the end of March to the beginning of April and saved me the trouble. But the dealer is a dick. :p
