Hi there, i am currently in my second game, I play on huge map, babylon, easiest level (trying to adapt for AC), and there has yet to be a war in both games. Nobody has declared war on me or on other AI civ's. Is this typical on low levels or just a rarity two times in a row.

On regent and above you'll have a world war in many games. I always enjoy when the AIs start nuking each other ... unless I have a trade agreement with the one that gets nuked, because the first nuke usually disconnects the capital.

Yes, in lower levels the AI tends to be less aggressive. I've had one game where no wars were fought from beggining to end.

You can always provoke one, either by declaring or making the AI declare war on you; this can be fairly easy if you demand tributes, propose insulting deals, kick their troops out of your territory, or - the best of all, planting spies and conducting intelligence in general. They will be severily pissed off, and almost certainly will declare war.

But note that you don't get informed of wars between two AI civs unless you have an embassy with at least on of those, so AI-AI wars may well pass by unnoticed.

On lower levels the AI expands slower. It takes them more time to grab al land available. As long as there is room to expand, one of the main reasons for attack is gone.

The prefect remedy: declare war yourself. It took me a long to understand that other civilizations in the game aren't offended by that move. Your reputation won't be ruined, unless you take advantage of the right of passage (ROP rape) or a 'per turn' deal, where you have bought something and pay in gpt .

Knowing fairly well the names of the cities, it's easy to spot that there has been war when the names don't match the civ...
Anyway, the game I was talking about was a tutorial (long ago...), and I wanted to do pretty much everything, so I established embassies with everybody as soon as I could. And I can assure there were NO wars in the entire game, even with Zulus and Germans as neighbours. I think that was the only time they didn't cause any trouble. That game ended with a diplo win - how appropriate - and one of the lowest scores I've ever had. Since then, only OCC-wins have generated less points. That's one of the reasons I don't do them anymore.

In my 'learning' games on Chieftain the only time I ever had a war was with Germany and I instigated it by parking a stack of units next to one of his cities.

This is good because it allows you to build up and try different ways of expansion and diplomacy without worrying too much about wars.

Playing on Warlord now there are constant wars right from day one. Especially if you have two Militaristic civs in the same game.

Anyway, despite the large amount of peaceful ways to win, its annoying that the only viable way to get a decent score is to take out as many civs as possible in wars at some point.

;) play on continents, 80% water, huge map, 15 opponents, and make sure china, japan, mongols, aztecs, germany, celts, vikings and persia are in the game. there will be wars ... trust me hehehe
