Query re early city locations

Spoiler :
I basically just expanded piecefully. My economy recovered quickly with all the floodplain and riverside cottages, and I ran at 50%-60% :science: most of the time. I didn't keep track of most of the history, but I did circumnavigate (entirely with galleys, before Paper) and took Steel recently from Liberalism so I can create cannons. I ran pacifism until recently to generate Great People faster, but switched civics in 1160:

Yes, I forgot to switch to Bureaucracy oh so many turns ago when I reached Civil Service

It's not many turns before I can start building riflemen -- 6 for replaceable parts, 11 for rifling. And I need to get busy with military matters: I've allowed myself to fall behind on power and number of troops. I'm doing well by most measures except power/troops:
  • Spoiler charts :

  • Spoiler demographics :

Initially my buildup will be defensive, but I am thinking of going for domination, starting with Hammy. I will have enough galleys to declare war and land enough troops on the first turn to take his wimpy city on the south end of the nearby peninsula.

The rest of my status:
  • My territory. I settled the best two islands to the west. The antarctic locations (in red) aren't worth settling unless I go for Sushi, which isn't going to happen if I go for domination.
    Spoiler mine :
  • The oceanic islands. I'd have to be running state property to settle them, and I don't think there are enough of them to stop a domination win. You can see from the little green dot that Sillyman has started to expand into them.
    Spoiler islands :
  • Techs.

@dalamb
Spoiler :
I reckon settling the islands are worth it if you have the GLH and colossus(you only need gallys to get to most of them)so the extra commerce is good till astromony.Your right though state property is needed to make them realy pay.

Regarding the dye city,I settled on the coast river above the banana, its best to build some extra farms so you can whip your infra out as there is zero production. With the majority of the citys building cottages overlap is good so your new city is,nt working an unimproved flood plain but a cottage or farm as soon as you settle it.

Spoiler :
did the quecha rush thing, but only took Lisbon,my 1st settler went south to the marble and bronze.Tech route was TW/Min/Pot/Writ/alpha.So after Lisbon I was able to sue for a couple of techs.Kept Joao alive to steal workers off him while building wonders in Lisbon-MoM,GLH and colossus.Very soon I was taking his culture and actually flipped his new capitol in about 1000AD(I think).

The reason I got MoM first was I oracled calander, figured it was well worth it for the riverside dyes near the capitol and the spices in Lisbon.

Spoiler :
Its 1AD and I have every wonder in the book pretty much-parthenon,mids,oracle,hanging gardens and still managed to get 6 or 7 citys. There so much land and islands though It didn't seem worth attacking anyone until Id settled the free land.

So that's what I did, settled all the islands I could.Built the Sistine and shared the religion with Victoria,I figured Lincoln would be less likely to attack me.Dropped a Great engineer and rushed the AP,spammed temples and monastarys which are good when you get the UoS and spiral minaret.

Libbed steam power as it was the most expensive tech, still was,nt in too much of a rush for war. When it came to Joao he,d vassaled to Hammurabi, but was no problem rifles vs macemen.Took them both off the mainland and the DOW against Victoria, this time infantry vs mace men:).She bribed lincoln onto me I think so I had to fight them both.Vassaled Victoria and kicked lincoln off the mainland.

After that I just kept on teching,1 city building an army, another a navy.Got DOW from hannible on the turn before I launched the space ship.Didnt amount to much-frigates vs missile cruisers, sam infantry vs mech infantry, airships vs jet fighters:crazyeye:

Thanks for posting the map.

Wow this start location is ridiculously powerful.

Someone explain quecha rushing to me because I've failed at something that's supposed to be cheap and easy three times now. I can't quecha rush Joao until he invents archery, so I expand one city and attack him as soon as I see his settler coming out of his territory. By that point his city had 40% defense, so even when I was outside his capital with 7 fully healed quechas to his 3 archers I wound up losing 5 quechas before I inflicted any damage on the first archer.

I'm sure I can do a standard whipped axemen rush, but I want try different strategies.

What level are you playing at? The quechua rush is much more powerful at the higher levels, Monarch+, where the AI already starts with archery.

Basically if you have a plains forested hills in your BFC you can pump out quechuas in 4 turns. With your first quechua you can worker steal, so that saves you going for a worker as your starting build. When you have enough, maybe 4-5 for monarch if you want to experiment on monarch, you should be able to take the AI's capital as more than likely they will only have one city, the exception being on deity. If you go BW, you can chop quechuas out as well if you manage to worker steal.

Quechuas do work on warriors, as they have the combat promo, so you can use a quechua's on prince and below as well. You don't have to wait for the AIs to get archery to do one, it would just be basically be a warrior rush at Prince and below. If you wait until the AI actually techs archery, you may be in over your head if they went BW first and hooked up copper.

Ty yea i had some money i won eco as well and did 1 great merchant be4 but that wasnt enough anyway xd
