Nobles' Club CXXX: Gilgamesh of Sumeria

400 AD

Spoiler :
After starring at the screen for a while (again) I decided to change my city specialization. Capitol will get TGLib and probably NE after. I was worried about city #4 if capitol will be NE and take it's pig back, but I'll figure it out once that time comes. City #2 is obviously commerce, I just don't know if it's worth it to move the Palace there. City #3 will get farms on green tiles and mines & workshops on brown ones and build units or wealth, depending on needs. It will get that GS out and then stop working specs there, the same as city #4. After that, dunno. Yet.
Spoiler Image :
l3dd.jpg
City #5 have enough food to continue working specs and to grow on water tiles - so some commerce city, as well as city #6, only with cottages and likely without specs. City #7 has everything - enough food (will have even more after those green tiles are farmed) and good production. Hybrid? WW spammer city, some for fail-gold? No idea yet. City #8 units, maybe even HE. It's not perfect, but with other being specialized like they are, it's probably the best choice - maybe I'll add MoaiS there too?
Spoiler Image :
z7u1.jpg
City #9 commerce + specs I guess, city #10 commerce, city #11 has a Shrine, so it'll get farms and will work as many specs as it can + cottages (riverside) and workshops (not riverside) on brown tiles. And of course buildings with gold multipliers. Last screen shows me razing cottages in 25 AD cause I don't have 12 cities. Yet.
Spoiler Image :
r0xg.jpg
That's when 1st chop went into TGLib while growing on another grasshill mine for 30 prod/T. 2nd chop came in 75AD leaving 5T for TGLib to complete. In 100AD I captured Heliopolis (with settled GG) and killed Ramesses, with Monty's units nearby, waiting for me to fail. That's 12th city, which has settled GG but not enough hammers for HE. It'll still pump military units, so farms & workshops I guess. Also, traded Lit & Drama to Pericles for MC and chopped into both settlers and 1 forge. Finished Music, got GArtist who'll wait for MoM to finish. Next research: Feudalism (binary). Why? I want CS and CoL I'll get from trade, I hope.

125AD signed PT with JC for PHood and gifted him fish. Created GMedic chariot, whipped both settlers and put a chop into MoM. In 175AD settled Shuruppak - that'll be last city with cottages - it's little late to start building & working them, but this city just screams cottages to me. Sent other settler even further SW to grab the fish next to Monty. Probably should've settle next to capitol, there still are few spots left. Will settle those with next settlers.

200AD got TGLib when JC DoW'd Freddy. Started on NE in capitol and sold PHood (Toku 20) and Poly (JC 90). 225AD settled Umma when another chop came into MoM - 3T to go. Upped the slider on 100%, Feud in 3T. Actually 2, cause I was building some research turn later for a turn. 275AD got GS in Kish (and stopped working specs there) and bulbed Philo. Cause....I dunno. Didn't know what to do with him. Sold Aesth (JC 70) and decided to put 1T in Machinery to trade for it next turn.

Converted to Judaism and swapped civics to HR & OR. Didn't go for Vassalage cause it's expensive while I won't build units - I need forges & ziggurats before units.

Toku made peace with Pericles in 325AD, turn later I upped slider to 100% to get CS in 400AD. Now everyone except Toku and me is in war, which is great cause I need some peace to make use of OR and get some infra. Lots to do with workers as well, get irrigation and more farms where needed. Have 2, 3 or 4 more cites to settle and spread my religion. Only units I'll build for now are L-bows for garrison, maybe some X-bows too - they'll most likely be whips into buildings. So there's no room for war right now. Lib & cuirs then? Nat & Taj? Eng & trebs? No idea yet...

800 AD

Spoiler :
Started by selling Lit (JC 220), trading rice (JC 4 GpT) and deer (Monty 7 GpT). Decided to research Paper on 50%. Turn later I whipped forge in Bactrian and started on Parthenon. 475AD got GS, he'll wait for Paper to finish and bulb Edu. Started on HE in Bad-Tibira. 500AD put a chop into Parth, granary & forge and sold Lit again (Monty 150). Research: finishing Edu on 50%.

560AD finished Edu and got Parthenon. I'm finally creating 2 more settlers, some garrisons and mostly still "basic" infra, while spreading religion. 3 missionaries at the time, I didn't build any monasteries. It was last day of GAge, so I switched to Vassalage - I still didn't move the Palace and Bureau wouldn't do me much good. And I chose Nationalism as next research, last turn of GAge on 50%, after that binary. Fredy and JC were fighting at Neapolis. Sold Lit again (Toku 70), settled Larsa in 600AD and Isin in 640AD.

Meanwhile Freddy managed to capture Neapolis in 620AD only to loose it again in 700AD when I traded CS for HbR (Pericles) - he was 3T away from it. And I decided to up the slider on 60%. Kinda slow round, was thinking on how to get Eng in trade, but couldn't unless I'd break Paper block :) That's a good tactic, I did it few times before and now when Seraiel said it's good I know it's good. Eng will come sooner or later - for now it's now really needed. In 720AD got another GS, she (Marie Curie) can bulb PPress, but I'll wait for now.

In 740 I begged JC for 110 gold, he accepted - finally he's at pleased. Now is 800AD - Nat is 1T away, next GPerson 10T away (90% GS/10% GE). No idea how long Taj will take...hm, I thought I'll wait for next GP to start GAge before Taj finished to get 25T GAge. I'll bulb PPress now, 24T will be enough. I'm done with infra (well, almost :mischief:), most of the land is improved. There is 1 more city I think I'll settle (iron peninsula), build some stables...then elephants (to probably upgrade them to cuirs), couple more garrisons, some maces & cats (and when time comes trebs). Ohh, I need to continue to spread my religion too. Darn Freddy doesn't want to trade me anything, I might have to tech Guilds to get GPowder by myself for cuirs. That's why he's 1st on my list. OK, he'd trade Eng since recently, but I don't want him to get too advanced.

Domination victory 1710AD (prince, epic)

Well third time was a charm as I finally finished a game on prince difficulty

Spoiler :
Egypt peacevassaled to me around 1100AD. I spent from about 1000AD on fighting first Monty. Who then peacevassaled to Toku. After taking maybe two of his cities he goes and capitulates to JC around 1500AD. So I go turn my army around and build some more guys close to home and then declare on JC that takes me to about 1680. After wiping out Rome, it's clean up and taking one more Japanese city to break the land threshold. I should have done it earlier by producing more units and less buildings.

@Fierabras

Thanks! :)

Now when I look at what I have done until 800AD, I suppose I could've been here sooner. I dunno, it seems I messed up the beginning - no early commerce was a big problem in my game. I messed up with Espionage Points too, had'em on AI I killed first.

I should've probably converted sooner too, instead of waiting for GAge? I hate loosing turns on converting and switching civics outside of GAges, is that bad? It's a habit from lower levels. :dunno:

@marasaidw

Congrats! Yes, more units and less buildings. Overbuilding infra is a problem for a lot of players, including me! If you are at happy or health cap, whip! Or trade for resources or...whip! :whipped:

You only have to time the first switch into Slavery when there's a settler on route to settle your 2nd or 3rd city. Converting and switching civics after that are mostly worth a turn in my experience.

The Not An Update Post!

Hello, and a big thanks for the support from Nials and Killroyan. I appreciate you liking my posts...

Unfortunately, my computer had a little technical problem this week. My user profile didn't load correctly, and I have had to make a new one. It is a real annoyance to have to transfer all my user-files-stuff from one user-profile to the next; and make the games work...

This means I have had no time () to actually play anything this week. I'll work on getting Civ IV up and running (with the appropriate mods 'n stuff) this coming week. Next weekend I shall (hopefully) have fixed the issues, and be ready for posting a new update on my game.

I AM going to get a new computer! But due to monetary issues I will have to wait until October before ordering it.

Yours Sincerely

Kjotleik of Norway :)

820AD finished Nat and started on Taj. Bulbed PPress and researched it until 880AD. Sold Drama (Monty 70, Toku 60, JC 40) and traded Nat for Eng+Theo+60 with Pericles. I hope I didn't screw Taj with that. Canceled deer for 7 Gpt with Monty and instead traded him ivory for silk+10 Gpt. Chopped 2 forests outside Bactrian in Taj to speed it up. Research Lib.

Actually, Bactrian grew to it's last workshop so Taj will come 1T sooner - I'll have to speed up GP for a turn and hope it won't be another GS. In 1010AD Pericles founded Islam while Freddy captured Neapolis again. Finally Toku's borders expanded and kicked my galley out. Also, I was 10 beakers away from Lib so I changed research to GPowder.

It's gonna be close! Sold Optics (Monty 60) to keep research at 100%. In 1160AD Toku DoW'd Pericles (slowing his Econ date by 1T) and I captured Cologne while I failed at Berlin.

Settled GG in HE city in 1160AD and captured Berlin turn later. What a city! That I'll most likely gift him back if he'll capitulate. In 1180AD finished Econ and got GMerchant! Next GPerson will come in ~4T with ~40% change of being GMerchant - so I've sent this one toward Athens (ToA) in case next GP will be GM. Next GPerson I got was GE in 1220AD - so I continued with TMission and got 1900 gold from it, while GE went to Kish to hurry West Point (760 hammers in 1230AD). Finished Const when Sistine Chapel was built - got 564 fail-gold from it. In 1260AD Freddy got Steel, traded him Lib+PPress+MT for it, when I DoW'd JC. Turn later finished RParts and started on Rifling. That was last day of GAge, so I switched to Rep & FR.

Gifted Freddy & JC their cities back (after I whipped some units from Freddy's cities) in 1300AD - waited with Ravenna for a turn (I thought I could gift it to JC) and sent all units toward Monty's borders, when Toku peacevassaled to Monty. After Rifling decided to finish partially bulbed SciMethod and I upgraded ~30 cuirs to cavs - ones with 17xp and 4*promoted, 10 and under 10 xp - cause if you upgrade units over 10 xp they "loose" OF and start from 10xp - ones with 17xp and 4*promoted keep their 4*, but xp starts counting from 10xp up.

1535 AD Summary

Spoiler :
...and I got Conquest Victory in 1535 AD!

Quite a tricky Immortal map - or maybe that's just me. Maybe I made it harder when I traded...actually was selling lots of techs for change and made AI's more advanced that way. Dunno if I sped up victory date that way, it seems I made it harder, facing advanced units toward the end.

Again, noticed score started dropping after 1500 AD from ~300k....maybe I gifted too many cities back, but I wanted Conquest. :)

I'm back from the dead.. at least long enough to play this game!

Immortal 175 AD:

Spoiler :

One of these days when i play Gilgamesh I'll get a map ripe for a Vulture rush, alas it didn't seem necessary at all here.

Settling on the marble and teching AH first are the obvious moves here with two great six-yield tiles to pasture. AH revealed horses to the south which meant BW wasn't immediately necessary for barb defense or production since there are cows, horses, and several unforested hills to mine in the area. I went for BW after Mining anyway, but i think a case could be made for Fishing to settle the silver and gold sites early or for Pottery to get cottages going around the horse city to the south (which is also a nice spot to move the capitol later).

I settled the 2nd city 1E of the horses since that was about the only spot that could a) share corn with the capitol, and b) not ruin the fish to the east. After BW i went for Pottery and Fishing to get the economy rolling, and that income allowed me to expand out to 7 cities.

After that i started doing the usual stuff... teched Aesthetics, traded for Alpha and eventually Monarchy and Mono, switched civics, teched Lit, did some wonder-whoring and got some fail gold, started some wars, won the GA from Music, and then worked down the CoL > Philo (bulb) > CS path. I'll revolt into Bureau this turn, head for Lib, and then probably Cuir stomp everyone. Boring i know, but it's my first game of Civ in months so it will be a good warm up.

KjotleikCom In retrospect, it was a mistake to put up a Cottage 1 SW of Eridu. I should've put it 1 W instead. 1 SW will need to be farmed to bring irrigation to the Wheat 2 S of the city...
KjotleikCom So, it's really no use in working the village for growth to town anymore. But using it to get some commerce before Civil Service arrives is ok I guess...

Congrats, Izuul!

 @ 1190AD  How...when...why...uhm....how.... :wow:

Short description of beginning, tech-path & settles? Please? :coffee:

I posted a little bit of the early game 4 posts up, but I'll edit this post with some details when i get a minute.

Edit: Here's a pre-lib save from 325AD. It's the earliest that i have on this computer, but it should give you a good idea of what i did early on.

Spoiler :
Probably the most important factor of the finish date was all of the warring b/t the AI.

Ohh right, I forgot that I've read it and thought: how similar to what I've done.
Spoiler :
Except for Fishing after Pottery (I went Writing) and I over-expanded too early. Dang, end date is much different, partially cause of that. Other part is that I still have much to learn - I've said first few Imm games will be getting the balance and stuff.

Congrats again!
