I am in the 1500 ADs on a milk run, and have been running Civ3 for the majority of the day.

When I entered the Modern Era ~1570 AD, after gifting the last AI into the Modern Era to obtain Ecology, I clicked on "preferences" and Civ3 crashed.

This didn't particularly annoy me; it happened to me in the early AD years too.

I opened up the game again and repeated my actions precisely, thus, the AI drew Ecology again. I clicked "preferences" again, it crashed again.

I'll continue, but I guess I'll have to go without preferences for awhile. Perhaps a computer restart would help.

Has anyone experienced similar problems after long stretches of playing?

Lastly, I assume none of the three crashes will count against me, since all of them required reloads to the previous turn to restore my game. I believe this is legal, though I have no clue how the HoF admins would distinguish between an illegal reload reason and a fair one.

Not exactly the same, but I've had lots of strange crashes. Most recently I had about 200+ workers on automate and it was too much for my computer to stomach so I had to go to the autosave and fortify about a 100 and keep the others on pollution patrol only.
