Norway First Look Video

Only the berserker sounds fun and the stave church, I dont know, how big will it be? So you want to keep your woods next to your holy sites. Btw, are UB build in half the time too?

I believe that Holy Sites get a minor adjacency bonus from woods already, so the Stave Church will provide even more of a boost for woods.

A whole leader ability devoted to coastal raiding?
The people over on the "few reasons to settle coastal" thread are gonna have a field day with this

It's not raiding the city center, just a regular tile. That can happen regardless of coastal or near coastal.

Ships pillaging coastal tiles are a beauty :)

I still kinda miss the possibility to crater land in general, as it was possible in Civ III.

I think this is the first time we have a Civ specialized in naval warfare, right?

England was the most specialised so far. With a unique sea unit and tile improvement. Harold just goes a step farther on naval warfare i think.
I beleave the redcoat also had some embark traits.

I do think that Harold might become quite popular at mp games.

Civ Ability: Units pay no movement cost to embark or disembark, and all units can move across Ocean tiles after researching Shipbuilding.

Leader Ability (Thunderbolt of the North): All naval melee units can perform coastal raids. Also receives the Viking Longboat, which can heal 10 HP in neutral territory each turn.

Unit: Berserker: Costs one less movement point to pillage, and receives a bonus to attack, but a penalty to defending

Infrastructure: Stave Church: Additional faith adjacency bonus from woods.

Thank you!

Oh my... well I know who my first game is going to be as now!

Always like a good viking civ, and this incarnation of Norway ticks all the boxes for me: coastal pillaging, quick offensive raids, early ocean sailing - yes please!

So before he puts his helmet on...

he IS Phillip (just with some braids in his beard).

Based on the wording on the leader ability (all melee naval ships can perform coastal raids) I suspect there's a unit out there available to other civs that can perform coastal raids.

That's insane. No movement cost for embark/disembark, ability to pillage coastal tiles and heal in neutral waters as well as ocean-going in classical era? That's some royal pain in the ass for anything even remotely coastal. I love it.

At work, can't watch the video. Never been this desperate to get home :crazyeye:

Can someone post a full list of the uniques to sate my inner hype-monster? :)[/QUOTE

Leader: Harald Hardrada

Leader ability: All melee ships can perform coastal raids

Civilization ability: All units pay no embarking or disembarking costs. Naval and embarked units may cross ocean after researching shipbuilding

UU: Berserker - pays one less movement to pillage. Strong on offense, weak on defense

UU: Longship - starts with coastal raid promotion. Can heal in neutral territory

UI: Stave Church - temple replacement that gains additional forest adjacency bonuses

It seems clear that Naval *Ranged* units can perform coastal raids. Which makes perfect sense: Naval Ranged units can bombard land tiles within their range to pillage them.

Hopefully there'll be one that can pick up goody huts. It's such a slog to carry a scout across the ocean to grab one or two huts.

Considering the plethora of unique improvements and districts in this game, does anyone think that unique buildings won't be lost on city capture? Would be weird to have a lot less to gain from attacking certain civs.

Lots to like with this civ, but my favourite bit is definitely that the auto captions think Norway is led by 'Party Hard Rod'

Ah good point...coastal raid is just the melee equivalent of a ranged bombardment. That being said, I still suspect there may be another melee naval ship out there that all civs have access to that will be able to perform a coastal raid.

How do you get the conclusion "Naval Ranged unit can perform coastal raids" from that description? It only talks about Harold's melee ship can pillage land, what it means could be just this: except for melee ships under Harold, none of the other ships, melee or ranged, can pillage lands.

It might also be a promotion and all of Harald's ships get it for free.
