Whaling is SICK.
I am pretty sure Norwegians can survive without eating whale meat. I simply refuse to accept, that it is necessary to hunt any animals in such brutal way only because some idiots like the taste of their meat.
I stand corrected! They classify minke whales as "low risk - near threatened". I still think that means the species is in danger, if not "endangered".
Yes you are doing something illegal. Just because you protest a law does not mean you are not bound by that law. For example, in my state of Ohio we just recently passed a ban on all public smoking, which I am totally against. However, if I were a business owner, I would still have to comply with the law or face the penalty, whether I agree with the law or not.
You could say that about any meat, hunted or farmed. I for one refuse to accept the brutal harvesting of soybeans, just because some vegan idiot likes the taste of tofu.
That's the worst analogy I've ever heard.
You know what, Cheetah, I'm glad you this subject was brought up because I learned a lot about the matter, doing my own research and reading what others posted, and my opinion has changed.
So now I actually think your whaling quotas are okay, if you're limiting yourselves to the Minke whales.
Frankly, I don't see why other countries simply don't force the few remaining whalers to do something else. I guess it would take only few armed warships to put an end to whaling once and for all.
Hmmm. It might. I suppose it depends on how you balence the "need" for people to hunt whales with the "need" for the whales to survive. Imho, whales are too brainy for me to feel comfortable with them being killed for food when there are so many other critters with smaller brains available. The method of catching and killing strikes me as particularly brutal, too.
That's the worst analogy I've ever heard.
Actually, I'm not strongly pro-whalehunting, but I have enjoyed being "the bad guy" in this discussion. You know what, Cheetah, I'm glad you this subject was brought up because I learned a lot about the matter, doing my own research and reading what others posted, and my opinion has changed.

Is it a good measure of absolute intelligence, though? (Come to think of it ... is there a good measure of absolute intelligence?)Ahh, I wondered when we would get to the issue of whale intelligence. Whales have a tiny brain compared to their body size. Just one hundredth of the brain/body ratio of humans. By this measure, cows, pigs, and dogs are significantly smarter than whales. The research on dolphin intelligence is highly contested, and that on whale intelligence nearly nonexistent.
How long does it take a whale to die/lose consciousness? How long does it take a cow in a slaughterhouse to die/lose consciousness? The method used to kill whales is violent in order to provide the whales a quick death. For animals used as food, whales have it damn good, living their lives in freedom and dying usually quick deaths. Much better than a chicken or farmed fish.
Absolutely agreed. The treatment a lot of chickens and other livestock is disgusting! The method used to kill whales is violent in order to provide the whales a quick death. For animals used as food, whales have it damn good, living their lives in freedom and dying usually quick deaths. Much better than a chicken or farmed fish.
And when they are living? When they are living in tiny cages with to little room to move around? When they are transported to the slaughterhouse in trucks where they almost can't breed and definitly can't move? Who has it better then?Is it a good measure of absolute intelligence, though? How long does it take a whale to dielose consciousness? How long does it take a cow in a slaughterhouse to die/lose consciousness?
Well, I only eat organic free-range meat and animal products, so I'm not being (too) inconsistent ... I agree that battery-farming is horrible and should be outlawed. And when they are living? When they are living in tiny cages with to little room to move around? When they are transported to the slaughterhouse in trucks where they almost can't breed [sic] and definitly can't move? Who has it better then?
It is wrong that a being has to suffer, but whaling isn't the worst there is, and if all the other things are allowed, it is hypocritical to demand that whaling is stopped.
Frankly, I don't see why other countries simply don't force the few remaining whalers to do something else. I guess it would take only few armed warships to put an end to whaling once and for all.
What makes me laugh is that 90% of the so called 'carnivores' here would hurl
and cry for mamma if they seen some real gore or an animal being slaughtered.
