The christian week magazine Magazinet has published a searchable list of the 17 000 Norwegian freemason members.

What are your opinions on this action? Is it an OK thing to do, publishing this list?

Hmm, I was asked for my Navn, Bosted, Grad, and, worryingly, my Tittel. :p

Is there an article you could post?

The article linking to that page was in a Norwegian paper, so I guess presenting it wouldn't be much of use. I doubt I can find any English-language explanation. The entry fields say 'name', 'living place', 'degree' and 'title'.

The point of the thread isn't the search engine itself, but the question whether it's OK publishing the member list of the freemasons.

This does sound a bit suspicious... What kind of group is behind this "Magazinet"? Conspiracy theories about Freemasons are lame.

Understood, I'd just like a little more information about the decision and the story, knowing not that much about the Freemasons, and nothing at all about the Freemasons in Norway or Magazinet.

Where did they get the list from? What tells you that it is correct?
Heh... good point, really. They state no source in their article. Can't find the Norwegian minister of fishing, even though I believe he's a member.

Hmmm... lets change the question: Would it be OK to post the member list of secret brotherhoods like the freemasons?

I thought is was illegal to do a thing like this?

And I don't think it's OK to publish such a list, that isn't done to other unions either I think?
Actually the only other group of people I can think of who had their names published are pedofiles in England!

There are some fishy intentions behind this publishing. Typical Christian intolerance, if you ask me.

Why not? I dont know much about freemasons, but what harm could it do?

Engaging in secret rituals
That sounds occult.. From what I have heard the freemasons of today are just a mens club.

Sounds like a rhetoric we’ve all heard before…

Publishing that list is cruel… But what could one expect from fanatic X-tians… :(

Masonic organiztion rarely keep mebership lists secret in free country. They are obtainable in the USA. But nobody seems to be be very interested in them.

Ahhh...but that is what they want you to think so that you discount their possible involvement in world events. They even sent Lefty to monitor this thread. ;)

It's still quite hard to get information about the masons except by word of mouth .... as someone who's curious about them and their history I'd like to see more information about them out there -- but it's certainly any private club's own business whether they wish to share their membership list, or anything else about their group, with the public.

There is a book called "The History of the Freemasons" or something like that. It was actually written by a mason, I believe. Obviously it doesn't contain a list of members.

Hmmm... maybe it wasn't as big and important as I believed, then... Feel free to delete or close the thread.

I have a friend who is in the freemasons (in America). Personally I think it's a waste of time. Of course, I'm not religious...

What do Freemasons do nowadays, now that their days of secretly running the world are over?
