Has anybody been able to complete the Improving Cities tutorial? I'm unable to connect the two cities to the capital. I build roads between the cities but the tutorial/game isn't recognizing that the cities are connected.

Aside from that annoyance, I'm very impressed with the Civ V. Great sound and graphics. Awesome enhancements to the UI. Can't wait to get deeper into it.

I had no issue completing it. Make sure the roads to/from both cities connecting to the Capital reach to the cities (it's easy to end up one tile away).

I don't know if something is buggy or if I'm doing something SO stupid that I'm not even thinking of what it might be.

I've completed every objective except:

"Connect 2 cities using roads to your capital"

Well, I've done it, I've connected all 3 cities with roads but I'm not getting the completion. What am I missing?

Same problem here. Anyone seeing a delay in roads connecting? I built one of my roads from both directions with 2 workers and it took some time to finish the graphical connection in the middle. I wonder if my technique is what janked the task completion.

Also, I'm pretty certain Rome is the capital, but I'm not seeing an identifying mark that confirms this. Just me? No star on the banner or anything.

EDIT: That was it--build a palace in Rome and the next turn it will finish the task.

One of the goals in the second or third tutorial is to establish trade routes by connecting two cites to your capital by constructing roads. I've constructed the roads to my capital but the goal will not show as complete, nor is the economy screen showing any trade income. The other goals, construct 4 farms, construct 4 mines all show as complete once the improvements are made. I'll give this another try in a non tutorial game and see if I get the same results. Anyone else seeing this issue?

The tutorials don't allow saves so I cant post the game file.

I originally posted this in the troubleshooting thread, but this seems to be a better fit. Mods please remove the duplicate thread from the troubleshooting forum.

when i did that tutorial, i had no capital. after i built a palace in rome, it turned into the capital and i could complete the objective.

I had the same problem. I tired to pop my borders so that all road were within my borders. I also tried to build parallel roads around the rivers and the mines. I would have built additional cities if that option was available. I'll redo and build the palace if needed.

I know I am being redundant, but the issue is the lack of palace.

I'll confirm that THERE IS NO PALACE IN ROME at the start of the game. It is completely unclear for a new player (and totally counterintuitive) that you need to BUILD A PALACE to finish the tutorial.

I completed the tutorials and I have to say, very little tutoring going on there. More like setting up a simple scenario, but leaving you on your own to figure it out (ok for a civ vet, but maybe not for a rookie). Nothing like the REAL tutorials that you find in the Total War series.

Hey, kind of a stupid question to introduce myself with but...

I'm not really that good at Civ and I just started playing again with 5
but as Im playing the tutorial I get to the one where you have
to connect two of your cities to your capital with roads.
Now, as far as I know, I completed that objective (as well as
all the other ones) but the game wouldn't acknowledge that I had done it

Now this could just be me, I might have missed how to properly connect cities
but as far as I could tell they were connected

Any help is appreciated

Btw, is this the only time in game when you can build the palace?
Haven't ever seen that building on my build list...
