Not all Americans are this stupid...they can't be...surely?

I think everyone needs to get over their Nationalistic pride and realize that it means very little to nothing...

We're all the same in terms of differences in the genetic code...were's all smart and we're all iditos, and yes, we live in different countries in different states or territories, but above all we live on earth, and until people start realizing the bigger picture this type of bashing will go on forever.

No, It wasn't the daily show, it was the tonight show, (my fault) and the guy is, Jay Leno

And the Newcastle upon Tyne thing was because I wanted to show off my knowledge of UK geography.

Regardless of the fact that many 'boring' answers had to have been cut away to make that, the fact that anyone doesn't know enough basic geography to catch on to that is mind baffling.

sysphus is right. We should certainly be able to handle some serious teasing, and frankly some downright sincere disgust, at the typical American's lack of geographic knowledge. It disgusts me how poor my fellow countrymens' knowledge in this area is.

What's really sad is that it isn't limited to places outside of our own borders. True story here: My cousin, who was in 9th grade at the time, made a comment about The Alamo being in Indiana. INDIANA!!!

Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer. Pretty standard stuff, regardless of the intellectual capacity of whom you're talking to.

Yawn...of course there will be all sorts of people ignorant of these things. Not just in America.

I wonder if they edit out people that are actually sensible and leave in all the ignoramuses.

Of course they would.. its hardly entertaining watching people point out countrys on a map...

I agree with the "Russia, China, Indonesia, Brazil, Canada" guy haha

oh yes.. but they arn'y self publicized. And i recon seen the americans realise if they try to take the piss out of anywhere else, they will get this kinda thing thrown back.. so in the end we only hear about the US being slow...

The N-Korea S-Korea thing in the end almost killed me laughing

The way the Americans here are going on, one would think they never took the mick out of other countries.

We all see your televsison shows and films, you can dish it out as well as anyone else, perhaps you ought to learn to take it once in a while with a grain of humour.

There is a difference between humour (the video is hilarious, the show Steet Smarts which finds the dumbest Americans on the planet, etc.) and the comments in the OP, which were mean spirited and degrading.

I almost feel sorry for the OP for not being able to just sit back and laugh. :(

But only almost.

Yeah, I think if someone had poked a microphone in my face and asked such a stupid question, I would either have ignored him or answered something similarly stupid, like "Hawaii".

But what about the hoola-hoola girls !!!

It is funny, as most of the people have said and I think it should be mentioned that the interviewer mislead the people by showing them a map on which Australia was labelled as North Korea, France, Iran, etc. ;) nevertheless it is hilarious.

Of course, this says nothing about the IQ of Americans, but still - how can one not know that Australia cannot be France, North Korea, Iran, etc. ... ;) It somehow remembers me of this:

(But of course, this is an old one)

No surprise at all. US is more self-centered than most of other states so naturaly they don't know much about Geography. From my experience general awareness of the world is greater at least in Europe. As for the people who agree on invading other nations....I've looked at their faces. There are guys like that everywhere. I don't think majority of Americans thinks like that even though on average they need to get out and see the world more. Also there's a superpower complex :p

If this had been conducted in Germany, only two things would have been different:
1. The answers would have been German
2. USA would have been on the "list"
Just the other day i had to talk to a woman, who was interested in renting a room. She suddenly started to talk about politics and claimed that 9/11 never happened and terrorists are just CIA agents in disguise.
