Probably at home :)
My capital does not get 50% for being connected to itself. All other cities do. I feel it's a bug. Even if this is intentional it's wrong.

You don't get trade route income in your capital either, (although it does factor into the trade caluclations). It's designed that way.

Railroad bonus +50% to production applies to all cities but not the capital. If this is a design feature, then it's a stupid one, singling out your (usually) most productive city. Especially annoying in culture games.

As if we needed another indication of designers' competence. Ok, thanx for the answer.

Hi all --

My sincere apologies if this has been reported already. I *think* this is a bug and not a feature.

In my last game, I captured some cities from a neighbor that suddenly (immediately) received the railroad production bonus even though they were not connected to my capital via a railroad.

However, many (possibly all) of them *were* connected to my capital via a sea trade route. Should this count towards the production bonus?

Regardless, when receiving the bonus, these cities possess the "railroad" graphics on the map, which is unseemly and inappropriate.

Just wondering if others have noticed this. I can post a save-game if necessary.

EDIT: I am using patch 1.0.0.20

Cities connected to your capital by harbor get the bonus. I think this is a feature, since otherwise island cities that simply could never form a railroad connection to the capital via land would be screwed out of their production bonus.

Thanks for reporting this. We already have a thread on this issue and it's thought to be a deliberate design decision.

The very idea of 50% to hammers just for rail link is flawed and unrealistic, so they have to patch it with same ugly solutions like harbours. Why not give it just +hammer to the tile, much more sense.

The whole trade and railways system is particularly flawed anyway but the loss of the railway bonus in the capital, the city boosted most by the all the other game mechanics, is incredible. How could that be a design decision? If the designers don't want good productive capitals just why did they create the tradition policy?

I've just played an Iroquois nation with the woodland production bonus and the only city on the entire map that had much woodlands was my capital (presumably by map design). I chose the tradition policy and grew it to a healthy size 22, with an ironworks, and it was staggering to see it without the railway bonus. Just how are you meant to play this game if you can't maximise the bonuses of your policies and nation traits?

Not giving these bonuses to the capital is a poor design choice in my opinion.

The 50% production bonus for connecting a city by Railroad to the Capital does not give any bonus to the Capital itself. So the Capital is left out of this MAJOR boast. I have connected about eight cities and they all get the bonus, just not the capital.

Playing as Rome on a standard map.

EDIT: Missed other thread on this.
