Not gaining influence from killing barbarian

I got two quests to rid barbarians near city-states, but I gain zero influence when I kill them. I killed all the barbarians in the area and the quest is still there. It says "remain plagued by barbarians." Why do I gain zero influence?

I've got that too. Either the barbarians that they mean you to kill have gone far away (which would be a bug), or it won't recognize it (bug too) or just there's a barbarian camp that's hidden somewhere from you. Scout around, this last one might just be it.

There are two different quests to kill barbarians:

1) If a city state is being "plagued by barbarians" then you can gain influence by killing barbarian units which are within 1 tile of the city-state's borders. If the barbarian is more than 1 tile away then you get nothing. I *think* you can gain influence this way even if the city-state has not yet issued an official plea for help.

2) If a city state has "targeted an encampment" then you gain influence by killing the encampment itself, not the units. Killing the barbarian units gets you nothing.

Only melee units killing barbs in CS territory or 1 hex from CS borders will give 5 influence.
Other units killing barbs will give zero influence, which is IMHO a bug.

definitely a bug but at least barbs should be off in competition too many luck factro

I took a warrior and finished off the camp but the city state still says "plagued by barbarians." I did the reveal all cheat to scout around and saw no barbarians in the vicinity. Before I finished the camp an AI archer had attacked but not finished off the camp. Does the quest bug if another AI attacks a barb?
