Brad, I've got a bit of a question for you.

Now that 1.21g is done with, I assume some of the time you were putting into that is now going back into the editor. Do you have any idea yet how much longer it's likely to be until that's done (or at least ready for a public beta)? I very much appreciate your efforts (under adverse circumstances) with this, but it has been quite a while.

BTW, I fully understand any estimate would be at best a WAG, with all the potential for error that implies. Also, I'm not looking for anything terribly specific - more like, this month? (not bloody likely, I expect) Next month? Sometime this year? Next decade?

I figured that was the situation - i.e. that most of us were wondering - which is part of the reason I went ahead and posted. ;)

Edited to fix smilie - forgot it was ; and ) instead of !

Ah! comrades [in the military, rather than the ideological sense]. Here we all are--waiting. It feels like we're all Shakespearean chqaracters, wot?

Having just been re-hooked on Civ3 by the Tourney, I too, am anxious to Edit.

Hard to say. Keep in mind I'm also working on getting JK2 out the door. I don't want to guess, mainly because there's too many variables to judge right now. However, a month seems reasonable for a beta of the editor.

Thanks for the info. It's always easier to wait when you have an idea of how long it will be. :D

BTW, the 1.21g patch is a fine piece of work! :goodjob: :goodjob:

Thanks for the info, Brad. I appreciate your taking the trouble to keep us informed.

So, Beamup... shall I pass out some of the spare bits I have for chomping on?

And yes, Brad.. Excellent work!!!! A thousand thanks!

In the middle of playing a scenario I've created (used the PC Editor)... I've come to one conclusion.....

I *really* hate that civilizations don't start in their traditional spots.

Playing a modification of Marla Singer's Earth..... only problem.. it's kind of wierd being the Americans, but starting in Italy.... Or the Romans starting in Dai-Du/Beijing..... Or the Iriquois starting on England ::chuckles:: That and I hate barbarian uprisings!!!!!

Yes, many thanks to Brad. I can honestly say that the editor will give me 100 more hours of play from the game if not more. Can't wait to try some insanely hard scenarios with a few extra resources in my favor....

Now if only they'd stop patching it on the PC side, and let Brad focus on the editor. (which I'd rather have over a patch anyway)

Grey Randall,

Have you tried using the Civ Placement Tool to get accurate civ starting points? I was able to do it with KittenOfChaos's world map (a modification of Marla's) using VirtualPC. This was a patch or two back (1.16 or 1.12 or something). But basically I would just start a game using the earth map and whatever civ I wanted to play, save immediately and quit Civ3. Shift over to VirtualPC, run the .sav file thru the CPT, switch out of VirtualPC, start up Civ3 with the newly altered .sav file, and voila, my Aztec settler was standing where Tenochtitlan should be.

Kewl! Is anyone running VirtualPC on a little iMac (400-500mHz)?

Sid,

I have a 500 mHz machine (G4 Cube) and Virtual PC runs fine. I mean, I usually don't try to run it and Photoshop at the same time or anything, but...

Hopefully my extra RAM that I ordered will be arriving tomorrow -- then maybe I can run them simultaneously :)

Well, I can do VPC just fine on a G4/450, at any rate. Unfortunately using the PC editor under it still doesn't work for me, even though the new patch was supposed to fix the problem. Highly annoying - I've been waiting seven months to make this map. Oh well.
