I'm not sure this where I sould post this, I'm sorry if it's not, tell me where if so. I trying to mod civ3 vanilla 1.29 patch with DYP mod. I have been trying to add new resouces, but can't get the icon to show up in the bicmod. I've made the civapedia.txt, pedia.txt, small, large pix entries and pasted it in the resouce grid pix file than save. So I tryed replaceing the resouce grid pix file with one download from here, and the bicmod still only showed the old icons. Can some one tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Maybe you're putting it in the wrong folder? Or are you using an old bic? Check that you use the new modded one. Also, you have to start a new game for any changes to take effect.

HTH

Get Conquests. Makes modding easier. Sorta.

Welcome to CFC!!! [party]
I'm not sure I follow you completely. Here is what you have to do:
Place the 2 PCX images, large and small, into Art\Civilopedia\Icons\Resources
Edit Art\resources.pcx to add the graphics for the new resources
Add the file names of the icons to pediaicons.txt
Add the entries to civilopedia.txt
Add the new resources in the editor in the resources page, and use the icon number selector to find the new graphics
Save the bic and load it in Civ3 with Load Scenario

This is the right forum btw :D

1st message by: mrtn. I'm useing the bicmod that comes with the DYP mod, and have checked the folders. I assum that the bicmod that comes with DYP mod is able to do this, I'm I wrong:confused: ?

2nd message by: Goldflash. I can't aford it, I'm on a very tight buget:( .

3rd message by: Weasel Op. That is the way I've been trying to do it, but when I get step 4 in adding it in the editor the icon block I put it in shows up blank. I've also tryed replaceing the resouces page with a diffrent one from the forum and only the old icons show. Imust be doing something wrong so I'll show you all what I have done.

Pediaicons.txt:

^Tungsten (formerly wolfram) is a chemical element in the periodic table that has the symbol W and atomic number 74. A very hard, heavy, steel-gray to white transition metal, tungsten is found in several ores including wolframite and scheelite and is remarkable for its robust physical properties. The pure form is used mainly in electrical applications but its many compounds and alloys are widely used in many applications (most notably in light bulb filaments and in space-age superalloys).
below are the pix I have. I have been puting it in the blank block(41) after copper. I've pulled the patsed pix out of the resouces.pix. I've been able to add it but the icon won't show in editor( when it's in the resouces.pix) , I've even been able to play it in game but no pix shows on the map:cry: , yet I can right click the spot I put it in and get theterrain info to tell me it's there, the civilopedia works too. tearing my hair out with this.

I'm quite sure that you have the wrong resources.pcx showing. IIRC, when modding vanilla civ you have to replace the original resources.pcx. Do that, but be careful to make a back up copy first.

I did try that when I did the editor only showed old resouces. it's got to be something simple or easy to over look, say I remember seeing something in the civopedia about resouces <40>. Also in my resouces.pix there are one or two blank space and then logs and other stuff then more blanks(DYP mod come like that). I was trying to in the frist blank spot between the two groups, which also is slot #41. could that be my problem? P.S. I also have three fullly working civ3 folders on my desktop: one back up, one for modding and a shortcut to the one that links to the desktop civ3 icon.

Go look in your car, couch cusions, coat pockets, junk drawers, friends houses, etc. for loose change. Put it all in a jar. Before long, you'll find the ten bucks you need for conquests.

I guest there is something good about civ4 it made civ3 cheap:lol: What about complete? is that better than conqests?

It's the same thing, but including the original game. If you've got the original game already it's obviously cheaper just to buy Conquests. But Goldflash is right (for once) - if you want to mod, you should really have Conquests.

If you change the resources images (or other pcx files) while you have the Editor open, it won't register the changes. Close the Editor and re-open it and you may find that it's worked.

That wasn't it but put me on to it, some how I'd linked the bicmod in my mod copy of civ to the main one that I use for normal gameplay. So my bicmod wasn't running off the one I had installed the new Resources.pix, I must have copied that one and replaced it with other, thereby changing the file path.
Thanks everyone! You've all been so helpful I owe you one.
