I couldn't gather enough units to comfortably maintain two lines of attack, so I attacked elf cities and just defended against Rhoanna. 20 turns later Thessa is down to what I think is her last city. We're in good shape to finish her and start on the formerly elvish core. It will be nice to get the Song of Autumn. On the Hippus border I fought off a small stack including Magandine, who defensively withdrew a few times but finally lost to a Diseased Corpse. I haven't seen any Hippus War Chariots, just a trickle of Champions.
On turn 590 I warmed up Alexis by declaring on Cardith, trading Gulagarm for 11 GPT, and opening borders. I think the declaration was unnecessary, because I also traded Festivals for 50, which gave us a +4 fair and forthright. I traded Deception, Optics, and Alteration for Feudalism, Construction, and her world map. The map was good, revealing just about everything.
I traded a Nightmare to Sandalphon for 6 GPT and and took OB with Sandalphon and Arturus. I declined OB with Einon so that he wouldn't sneak in a Settler or something. For one thing, I want to leave our unimproved mana nodes free so that we can build a metamagic later. I sold a Nightmare to Einon for 19 GPT, but I didn't notice that he already had Horses until the end of the set (oops), so I didn't make the trade until then.
The OBs didn't do much. All our potential foreign trade routes are blocked by hostiles.
I switched to Consumption on turn 590. I left the slider at a steady negative. I think 0/100 and back to Nationalism would have been better, but I misunderstood how Nationalism was working.
I spread Esus to one city. I'm not sure what that will do, but if we lose our Nightwatch we won't have another opportunity to do it. I declared nationality on the Nightwatch to protect it from an exploring Sidar Ranger.
I lost both veteran Imps to Assassins (oops), and both veteran Chariots: one after taking out a Lightning mage in the open, another softening up a Treant for Hyborem. We took no other losses.
We got Fanaticism on turn 601. We never had a chance to trade for it. I started Malevolent Designs and now we're around 12 turns from finishing it. We might have a shot at Mardero, because I think Charadon was occupied researching Stirrups for part of this set.
An undercouncil vote came up, Charadon vs Alexis. I voted Charadon because he was friendlier. But I didn't really know what would be better.
I noticed we get an extra +1 wealth, beakers, and culture from Temples and Demon Altars. I guess that's an undocumented Infernals feature. Builds in new cities have been Temple -> Market -> units. I might have skipped the Markets, but I thought you guys would just build them after my turnset anyway

mischief

. I built a Demon Altar in Dis, and then built only Diseased Corpses there (apart from one replacement Imp), since I figure that's the unit type that will see the most action.
I cancelled the Gambling House in Dis. Looking at it again, the 78 hammers required to finish it are like 156 elsewhere, since it's the Heroic Epic city. 156 hammers for 3 GPT is like paying 105 hammers for a 2 GPT Market. So I guess there's an argument for finishing it. But any new ones would cost 300 hammers, and +10% maintenance and +10 crime, for only 3 GPT.
On the last turn I noticed we can trade Alteration+Festivals+490 to Charadon for Smelting. I think we should.
After Malevolent Designs, how about Astronomy? With the GLH from Thessa we have 6-8 trade routes per city, and three overseas trade partners. If we trade it to Charadon, we might finally get him in the game.
380 turns left.
