How many civs would you like to play against in Civ3? 7? 10? Is more necessarily better?

<font face="copperplate gothic light"><font color="navy">Bigger is better. It makes the game more real. But only more than 7 if they could make the map size bigger by 10x than it already is. I think the make should be hmmm 10-12.

I love long games.

Also, i think the game should go on forever. And you could colonize Planets in outerspace, and actually play the game like in CTP but keep the Requirements LOW. And i mean low or i won't be able to run it on my PC.

I would prefer lots of civs, starting out with a few, 7, then ending with a lot. Would make diplomatics fun

Well Stellar there are more than just 7color throughout the world. So in Civ3 there's no reason why there couldn't be more than 7civs able to play a game.

after a while, civs will start having pink and pinkish white and purplish red and gray and black and blue gray and forest green and light green. people wont be able to tell those appart and one would have to spend 5 mins a turn trying to figure out who they are attacking. thats why tons of civs is a good idea, but not a possible one

. The numbers of civs will thus depend and an individual gamers color vision acuity. More civs might require a larger shield or flag on the units in order to distingusih them. Also two toned emblems could be use with contrsting colors to increase the number distinguishable factions. The real limitation come from system requirement for larger number of civs, cities, units and most importantly MAP SIZE, they will want to size the game for the the typical system sizr in proscessor speed, RAM, etc with out it becoming too slow.

The original game was twice as big. Another rule I call the "Civilization Rule": Don't make the map too big. The concept of Civilization was the history of the world, so you have to have a big map. The original map was twice the size, and the game just bogged down. Part of the pacing of a game is this relentless progress. We finally turned it around to where the map was smaller, time progressed more quickly, and the game felt epic, even though it moved pretty quickly. So that was another rule: More is not necessarily better.

Hey Everyone, a lot of people think that map size and number of civs will change the game, but I don't really think so. I think the improvement to the game will be in how the civs are played and the types of terrain that are in a "playable" map. How about a map with terrain that changes over time...or terrain that is altered by the improvements of civilization...I do think there could be more civs, but they don't have to be turn oriented civs...just civs hanging out...because if you think about...only a few countries in the world determine the destination of mankind anyway...Trade laws in Iceland have very little impact as opposed to say Trade laws in China, Germany, the United States or Japan. What would be best...is a movement toward making the game feel real...it's what were shooting for whenever we play a scenario...isn't it?

Well, 50 would be nice. I remember playing Nobunaga's Ambition on the NES. There were 49 computer controlled fiefdoms. I'd like to be able to do something like that with Civ3. Also if they could turn the game into Real Time, I'd like to see it be 'massively multiplayer'. I don't know if the Civ series is made for that though. But it would be kewl if Firaxis does a Civ3 and a Massive Online Civ.

. Given the architechure of the game engines used up to now for the registers, you can assume that the max number of civs will a power of two, minus 1. ( I have seen one register in SMAC, that is a power of two, without the minus one

I am hoping that they use a new engine...that allows lots of user input.

Well, Sun Tzu, if Alpha Centauri is any indicator, it is probably safe to assume the system reqs on civ3 will not be very high.

if I could i would like to play against 30 or 40 diverent civs at once but imagane how crowded the world would be how long it would take just for the enemys to do there turns but you would really have to fight for every bit of land and a really large civ would be 3 or 4 citys large i think that would be fun.

Actually i think the game play is good keep 7civs playing at one time, But make the AI more smarter, which they can do. And fix the Bugs and have the AI use strategies well not real strategies but dont have them attack with one Legion against 5 Armor
tongue.gif

Also make suer that they're not aggressive like in Civ2 MGE

I don't like the idea of playing against dozens of civilizations in the normal game, but 20+ civs or something would be cool for scenarios though.

For example a WW2 scenario where Spain is a seperate civ, which you can try to get involved in the war by diplomatic actions and also seperate civs for the African/Asian English-French colonies with a lower tech...

And South-America isn't really fun when it's either:
-empty
-controlled by the Axis-civ
-controlled by the "Neutral"-civ, yes, the same Neutral civ who also controls countries like Spain, Switzerland, Belgium/Holland which doesn't make much sense in a WW2 scenario...
