Offcial Civ4 Site is Up

C'mon, guys. I think it's ridiculous they'd launch the Civ4 site without the leaderheads (and the complete list, no less), but it was obviously a web mix-up.

Whoever was assigned to the leaderhead page flash was obviously placing the images based on their captions. Kublai Khan says "Emperor of China," so he was placed there. Frederick no doubt says "King of Prussia" so they were confused and left it out. And I don't know why they left out Liz, but c'est la vie.

There's your simple explination. ;)

It's a joke to be honest, official website going live only 12 days before the release of the game and is full of incorrect or outdated information! Way to go Take Two!

My first post! :D

I also hope the webmaster just made a load of mistakes. One of the main things I was looking forward to in Civ4 was getting to play with Qin Shi Huang instead of Mao.

The unit videos were pretty cool to watch. A good preview of the graphics and video of the game. Though I would have to agree that some of the battle animations such as the war chariots were a bit disappointing, it was nonetheless pretty impressive.

One thing I just noticed, when I try to download the Spiral Minaret Wonder theme, I just get Ancient Soundtrack Cromer. Not sure if anyone else has had the same thing happen to them already.

People are probably a little miffed that some of their favorite Civs aren't included, but this already has more Civs (18) than the original Civ3 (16), and we got 15 more Civs through Civ3's expansions, so I think we'll be good there.

I'm disapointed by the unit animations, especialy the crossing over of units after the battle. If there are 2 or more units, they will change places in their line when going from one tile to another. I find that a bit annoying already.

Second of all, the Phalanx animation sucks! It's just a normal animation like any other! Everyone knows that phalanx had their one special way of fighting, which made them so famous.

Third of all, why do arrows from bowmen land at marines' feet, and not on their chests?

There is no gunship sound!!!

The chariot animations also looks like any other. They arrive at the adjecent tile, and rather than riding over it like they shoul, they stop and start the fight in an ordinary way!!! Not to mention those black traces the charoits leave on the ground.

Is there anyone who shares my thoughts?

PS: Where can I see the wonder movies? There's nothing in the movie section.

Woo hoo, the official site has been updated. Qin Shi Huang is listed as one of the Chinese leaders now!

edit- Curiously, Kublai still isn't listed as a Mongol leader, but it looks like the other leaders were updated (Liz, Freddy).

yup! good to see that qin is back! frederick and bismark for german, victory and elizabeth for england. just the mongols missing kublai khan...

Odd, the China section still looks the same to me...

EDIT: Nevermind. Must've been loading the temp file or something. It's all good now. Looks like they also put Kublai in the Mongal section now. And Frederick is in the Germany Section.

Though, it looks like Spiral Minaret theme is still Ancient Soundtrack Cromer.

kublai is up under mongols, with a clearer caption to boot. ;) Looks like they are jumping on changing the flash due to all of the complaints. :p

EDIT: ... and Roosevelt is the 32nd president.
EDIT: ... and Caesar is Roman dictator now. :p (Xen? ;))

Again with the telephone as an American invention! It's Canadian!!!! It was invented in Brantford, Ontario by Alexander Graham Bell to be precise. Americans may have refined it, but they can't claim it as their own.

Well according to this Bell didn't even invent the phone in the first place, Antonio Meucci, did.

So I guess Firaxis is correct after all. ;)

i thought it was some guy called nicola tesla

if he didn't he did something important. if you chack out the scientific leaders of america in the conquests edit

They removed the civ-comparison "to-do-list" (surely it has been uploaded as a mistake in the first place) as well and filled it with "coming soon"...

The rest of the site seems to get refreshed more and more, too... :D I like the style and set-up so far...

Am I the only one who's not downloading the music or wonder movies in order to see and listen to them for the first time when I will actually PLAY the game? I'm just curious!

They still haven't fixed the Developer Blog for Modding going to Religion instead. You'd figure if it didn't exist, they'd atleast put a 'Coming Soon' link there or something.

I think they just made a mistake somewhere uploading or naming the file. blog_03.htm and blog_02.htm are both the same file, except blog_3 should've been about modding.

Uhm. I cannot seem to find the units section on the official website. Care to direct me? Thanks.

Go to Civilizations and look at the featured civilizations. At the top of the flash pages there will be a gold stamp that you can click on that will show you the units. This is only for "Featured" Civilizations. The others don't have it.

I didn't notice it at first either.

Just for complete historical accuracy, they should change the title of Napoleon from the Emperor of France to the Emperor of the French

On the music section of the site, Jeff Briggs states:

Another great example is the music for Frederick the Great. We used the “Volga Boatman’s Song.”

I can't figure out the rationale behind this.

Why would they use a traditional Russian folksong for a sophisticated German King? Seeing how Frederick was actually a composer himself, certainly, it would have been more appropriate to use one of his own cute compositions?

Or, if you wanted to replicate the musical atmosphere present at Frederick's Court - then why not simply use music created by the composers employed by Frederick at the time, such as CPE Bach?
