An Oklahoma County judge is refusing to let men planning sex-change operations switch to feminine names.

District Judge Bill Graves has denied name changes in two such cases so far — last year and again in August. The judge ruled both times the requests were made for a fraudulent purpose.

“To grant a name change in this case would be to assist that which is fraudulent,” Graves wrote. “It is notable that Genesis 1:27-28 states: ‘So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth ...' The DNA code shows God meant for them to stay male and female.”

The only thing fraudulent going on in these cases is the Judge's reason for denial. Fraudulent in the context of most name change laws is to prevent those with a conviction on their record or those trying to dodge debts from making the name change. It is not meant to give the Judge a license to be a theocrat.

In my neck of the woods, I could see a couple of judges pulling this kind of nonsense. I have already personally witnessed them bully women seeking a divorce from changing their name.

Yeah, it's just some pissant county judge. Easily overturned I should think. Still... stupid okie judge.

Phil Collins may be a great drummer, but that doesn't mean he should be able to dictate whether or not people can change their names.

Of course, this is illustrative of how the importance of Genesis has changed over the year. Back in the late sixties, no one would question the right of Peter Gabriel to dictate public policy.

I'm planning on changing my last name to Giant Hogweed.

Are you "Looking for Someone?" You might find him "...l[ying] down on Broadway."

I heard one of these guys was wanting to change his name to "Harold The Barrel."

Sounds fine to me. "I know what I like."

OK, this is just stupid. I wouldn't agree with it, but I could understand a soc con/theocrat effort to ban the operations in the first place, but once the operation is allowed to succeed, allowing a name change is simply common sense.

I mean, I don't agree with the social conservative view I described in that first paragraph, at all, but c'mon, get your priorities straightened out.

I was expecting this to involve Phil Collins and that band Genesis.

Who says it doesn't? Sit back and watch "The Cinema Show."

His reading of Genesis is stupid.
Eve is clearly a transexual. She is made from Adam's rib, therefor her genetic code would be identical.

Furthermore, Genesis 2:19 clearly states
"and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name."

You know what this move is by this judge?

It's a "Nursery Cryme."

You're just Taking It All Too Hard. It was probably just a Misunderstanding

Oh well, the judge might get su-su-sudioded by the ACLU. Forming a legal opinion isn't as easy as 'just say the word, I'll su-su-sudio you'.
