doesn't anyone remember Wasteland? on the C-64 that was the greatest. and the PC version was just as good!

what about Mission Impossible? that was another old goodie.

I had forgotten about Wasteland. Great game. Ancestor to the Fallout series.

Short List:

Strategic Conquest (both version I & II)
The Dungeon Revealed (market version of shareware Dungeon of Doom)
Wizardry
Ultima 3

All on my Macplus which I still have & may run:love:

I played console games before w95. Some of my favorites Populous, Power Monger, Mortal Kombat, RBI Baseball, John Madden 95, Nobungus Ambition, Liberty or Death, PTO, Star Control, Zelda. Those Koei strategy games were awesome. Some of these were good for MP.

My favorite were

Full Throttle.
Transport Tycoon
Lemmings
Doom, (Till I started having non stop dreams about it;) )

PC:

Wolfenstien 3D
Doom
Lemmings

SNES:

Super Mario Kart
Super Mario World
Legend of Zelda

C-64 / Amstrad CPC-64

Bombjack
Commando
1945 (i think... it was a plane shooting game)
Ollo II

And there was some C-64 game that used to scare the bejesus out of me everytime i played it but i cant remember the name - you went from room to room lookinf for clues to a murder i think.

Hmm.... Before Civ II, basically nothing, until going back to the 80's game called "Empire" (subject of someone's thread elsewhere here). Pretty much didn't play games on PCs.

Before that, in the 1970's, the ultimate game was Star Trek... run on a University Mainframe of the era, and typically played on a paper printout terminal, not a CRT (Cathod Ray Tube = computer screen). Zork was also wildly popular back then!

A typical '70s University Mainframe like a DEC or an IBM had about 16 MB of core RAM... LOL, lots of video cards have more than that these days. So the games were pretty primitive by today's standards. Wonder what things of today will look like in 20 or so years... Holographic fight chambers, 10 - zero G graviton generators, ..... hehe.

:)

Why only one mention of Elite? That was THE game when I was at school. And then Populous 2 - the recent version just wasn't the same thing at all. And Pirates of course - when will Sid get back to work on that??

Anyone out there used to have a Spectrum? Remember all those Ultima games - Knight Lore and Underworld etc And Atic Atc - simple but effective. And Spy Hunter - smack those bikes up:)

Of course Gauntlet ruled in the Arcade.

Sensible Soccer is still one of the finest games ever, but how good Kick Off 2 seemed before it was released!
I totally agree. I loved playing Kick Off 2, and thought it was amazing, then Sensible Soccer came along and I never played KO2 again.

Pinball Dreams and Pinball Fantasies!!!!! It is impossible to make a good pinball game on computer and all other examples are rubbish, but these two were wonderful. :)

Played these games for hours on end. I have yet to see better pinball games on PC or on a console.

And can anyone remember the game of this shareware Amiga game that had 3 kung fu men on the same screen and you'd have to fight one another. They were all really gaudily dressed and the graphics were atrocious, but the gameplay was superb!!! In fact, you got some great games on the cover of Amiga Power (Brits only) every month! I played some of those demos to death!

This game sounds like International Karate (or IK+)

Other games I used to love were:

Airborne Ranger
Pirates!
Defender of the crown
Centurion: Defender of Rome (if anybody remembers it)
Civilization (the original)

Perfectly remember those games :)
And btw, I thought I said it somewhere, my bad. Yes IK+ was incredibly fun and funny. I played it almost as much as Speed ball 2 and Lotus esprit on Amiga.

Btw, I heard about a Kick Off 2002 I think. Yes, a 2D football game nowadays, while EA Sports and other editors only release full 3D stupid football games... I really enjoyed the playability of that 2D view. I'll always be a conservative :)

Lucasarts games of course... Brilliant adventure... I remember Monkey Island 2 with 11 (!) disks for my amiga 500.. Disk swapping mania, but I didnt mind then.. The game was just so darn good:D

I think I would mind today, though... Like playing CM `93 and waiting 5 mins while the game loaded after EACH match, and 50 mins starting the game

I am still addicted to Sim City 2000 after all these years I'm currently working on the first city to have level highways, I found a technique that allows me to do so

The original Command and Conquer is my favorite somewhat old game (I think that the DOS version came out before 1995. Command & Conquer gold came out later.).

hmm, let me see...

Battle Isle (terrific strategy-game)
UFO - Enemy Unknown
XCOM - Terror from the Deep
Railroad Tycoon
Wings (3d on an amiga, imagine!!)
Wing Commander II
Speedball II

Hmmm...not many text only game were mentioned except for Zork? Anybody remember Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy? Its from the same company who produces Zork. ;)

As to simple arcade game, anyone remember Karateka? Without it there can be no Prince of Persia series. (Yes, its a game by Jordan Mencer)

And lastly, there is the original Lode Runner (not the revamped version, the original version with stick firgure. ;) )

Actually I still have a working Apple II at home (but I suspect 99% of my old floppy can no longer work :p ) and that where I play all these games on in the old day. :D
