Olympics 2012 discussion

I can't wait for volleyball to end. It seems like NBC is ALWAYS showing a volleyball match of some team or another.

Sports = men like

Bikinis/short-shorts = men love

I think they are after a certain TV target audience. ;)

Because winning 1 time is better than almost winning but not winning 10 times.
So you only achieve something in 1 disciline instead of beign a good performer across the spectrum… and that's better?

Curiously, the NYTimes online edition has them ranked by total medals.
I like the beach volleyball, not the indoor variant, for obvious reasons.
Fanservice.

Well, we have Argentina and the Dutch fighting for first place on yet another hockey competition.

How much will the U.S. beat the banana-clad basketball team by?

I'd much rather be able to say that I'm "THE MAN" at something be tell someone that I was "almost the man" at 10 things but never was quite "THE MAN".

Winning a bunch of silver and Bronze medal just means that you a good performer at a bunch of different things, but your not quite good enough to win.

This is not Little League where everyone is special and a winner. These are the Olympic games where each event has only 1 winner(perhaps more if they tie). Silver just means you came close but did not win.

The IOC does not even officially have a medal tally
As well they should.

If anything, the IOC should divide the medal count by the number of people the country has killed in the past 4 years from civil rights atrocities and "collateral damage".

It is a shame they don't rank Olympics athletes on good sportsmanship. The Brazilan light-heavyweight boxer just defeated the Cuban Olympic champion after losing to him in two past bouts, and the Cuban gave him a big hug for doing so.

The Boomers were playing in green

A non-banana team? Figures.

Well, a 30-point difference, as it turns out.

Not too bad given that this isn't even a particularly strong Boomers team by Australian standards right now. Wait til all the basketball-mad Sudanese migrants start to come through the system, then we'll see!

Quite probably, but I reckon we'll be more generally competitive if some of the Sudanese guys start to come through the system. Remember basketball is a very minor sport in Australia, we're not like Lithuania or Spain where it's actually popular.

Like I said earlier in the thread, we have Kobe on this team. He shot us out of the first quarter and actually played so badly that even Coach K - who is virtually no-showing this Olympics - yanked him in the second.

And then he went back in, played hero-ball again, and it worked because it was against five Australian homeless guys they found on the streets of Brisbane. So now he's going to think that it's a good thing if he shoots a bunch of times again, and now he's going to shoot us out of the next two games. YAAAAAAY

My Great Grandma could coach that team to a gold.
