Onan's Naval GMR game (G&K)

This is my payback from Tab for Speed, and yours from him for the SoL game.

A Carthage fleet shows up near the Dutch Groningen in the west coast, and the fleet that attacking the last Danish city will soon engage the Dutch fleet from the east.

It's now or never!

Initiate the request for cash from the Dutch as we can't make the second deal this turn.

Sounds like the Dutch may be going down too. Sorry, E, did I forget to mention the two frigates I saw to the west? Another lucky scout.

Frigate-wise, we are about equal to the Carthage, but they got navigation sooner, so their privateers are more and their monster cash......

Yeah that cash income was pretty impressive.

The Danes last stand was last turn. More like our only stand. Two galleases and the city damaging one frigate. Our research ground to a halt several turns ago, when we gave away all our money.

I bought some Privateers in Ribe. Yes, it's now or never. Now that everyone is broken, i can continue my domination phase. Each cities taken bring me more gpt.

Carthage is the best naval civ in water map as it seems. When we are struggling to build harbours to get gpt, they can freely build galleases or universities.

Demark is only good in semi-land-water map. Ottoman also need barbs to shine. Possibly fractal with low sea and more barbarian setting to be balanced?

Heh, Ribe-Tikal.

Are you still in happiness? Ah, you occupied Ribe and probably bought a courthouse...but still, you took my two size 17 cities, even reduced to size 8 each, that's still a lot of :(s. I guess cash can help with that too, you just buy happy buildings. And that's not even considering religion....

Anyway, I might as well say it now, since I'm not sure I'll get another turn:

gg Tab, very well played.

Yeah, those might be settings worth trying if we run another naval game.

I've taken all of your cities and i'm still at +14 happiness. GG Onan, it says your turn but i doubt you can play that one :p

There was a great merchant sitting near my allied city state. I took this for an outrage. So i DoWed Foffaren. En garde!

Groningen is about to fall(that should be for the same turn if my caravel wasn't at 6 turns from the city core ). Where are your ships EEE? More will come from Ribe.

We have ships waiting, but we are buying time for other nations to mobilise and strike back hard, even that means one of our cities MIGHT fall.

One of my dozen of cities? Hmm ok during that time i will get 3-4 more

Sunk 1 injured Carthage frigate!

Unfortunately two shots can't finish the injured caravel in this turn, which means Groningen will fall next turn. But it doesn't matter, all the westen fleet of frigates is now trapped, and that's all we want for now!

Warriors of the alliance, Carthage can't buy frigates quickly enough in the next a few turns, strike hard and we shall see another day of freedom!

By the way, 4-5 Carthage frigates are still out there, will make sure next turn, maybe only 2 defending Carthage iron cities or main cities.

Side note: we gifted the about- to -fall Groningen to the Byzantium, if there is strong objection, we will not proceed.

I think the Dutch made several mistakes by building fish boats before Galleas, which delayed navigation intentionally by 2 turns, so the frigates are not quick enough to protect Groningen (ideally should not fall)

You took my merchant?! That is an outrage!

Atleast I dont have to put up with the charade anymore. Can you fight a 2 front war? We shall see.

The Carthage has prepared for 5-front war, so 2 front is nothing challenging to them:cool:

Played my 'turn', I'll retire a bit later, hopefully that will be error free.

I've seen the charts at the end...Everyone else military strength combined might equal tab's. Then again, it might not! Good luck to the alliance.

Also, looked like a really crappy start in / near tundra for the Ottomans, with probably the smallest landmass too. Apart from my third city, my land was pretty production poor. I did enjoy combining temple of Artemis, fertility rites, swords into plowshares and the tradition tree bonus to get, not sure, around +65% growth rate empire-wide? More with WLTKD!

Predictions: After the Dutch, England and Byzantium will be next on the hit list. Polynesia and ottomans will be saved for last--since they're close to Carthage's original cities, newly made units will combine with veteran units of the earlier wars to squash them from at least two directions.

I trust E to hold up the main bulk of the carthaginian fleet. I have faith in you.

If Ottomans decide to pick our side all he really has to do is raid the coast of the main island. If you want to stop raids you have to pull troops from the front or spend production on fighting at home. Such a war will wear anyone down sooner or later.
