Actually, I played civ I with only one city one time...it was one of the first times that I ever played civ and I didn't have the manual so I was cruising around irrigating and just discovering tech out the wazoo...guess I had a good starting location...anyway...I got the city up to a 42, (don't ask me how, it just happened) and I actually survived until the French got tired of me and wiped me off the map...seems to me they nuked me...but I could be wrong...but I remember it was the French because it really ticked me off. Anyway...I don't think you can win the game in Civ2 that way...it would be risking so much that if your one city gets trashed...you have no other city to move your capital!

. There is a site for a standardised set of rules for the OCC, one city challenge. It also has the best strategy guide for taht challenge. I have posted a link in "other civ related sites"

But i doubt you can even survive to A.D with only one city.

On civ1, I've beat the game on every difficulty up to Prince with one city. I failed my first attempt at King, and haven't tried again since. Once, while playing civ1 on difficulty 7 (3 levels above emperor, requires a cheat... a certain cheat where enemy civs' cities can grow to 120s or 130s and it only costs 5 resources to build a nuke. I survived until 850AD with only one city. It was a LOT of fun, and I know this is a civ2 forum and playing these higher difficulty levels in only possible on civ1, but the challenge of defending ONE city with just a handful of units against waves of literally hundreds of enemy units is so much fun, even if you can only survive for a few turns.

OCC is the easiest way to win at deity. One city is alot less work. You must play differently than you are probably accustomed to.Go to Paul's site and learn the basics.Try some of the comparison games. The current record is in the ad 1400s

Paul's site

. You probably need civ2 classic to play OCC. the AI in MGE is to hotile diplimatically for OCC.

One would think so but the current record was done on MGE by Ribannah from Australia.Less total beakers are required in MGE as opposed to regular solo version.

just beat occ on prince. it was so easy. im gonna move on to deity now. i imagine it will be much easier. occ is very fun. takes a lot less effort to win.

lets just play here, at the board games forum. its o good deal easier i think. i dont have icq, anyway.

on very tiny maps you can only have one city because theres no room for more

I was beating Civ II OCC not long after it came out. But I think paul and the other guys take it to a more scientific level than I did. I just find all the huts find all the other civs and hastle them at the beginning if it seems useful, trade techs and build all the trade buildings etc and then go for the win.

I liked to do it from New Zealand on a world map (drawing in NZ if my map didn't have it) and naming my tribe Maori ;)

Every now and then I'd do somthing like flood the oceans with subs or whatever and make a huge war with the AI from my tiny one city country.

This Challenge is definitely worth trying
