One Last Roll of the Dice

Ok looked at the save.

My plan is as follows.

Paris: Maces
Oleans: Finish CH (whip when the city growas in 3)
Lyons: Finish CH (maybe whip) > Aquaduct
Rheims: Units
Tours: CH > Monastary
Marseilles: Market > Temp (Priest Spec)
Vandal: Christian Monastary > Missionary > Units. AP is Christian so lets get this spread.
Chartres: Its lost the rice to cultural pressure so a Monastary here.
Avignon: Not sure here. CH?
Rouen: Forge or Lib. Forge probably.
Grenoble: Forge

Once those workers are done near Vandle then down to Roeun. This city should really have been improved long since.

Revolt to Buearacracy [sp?]. We should consider OR once Christ is spread but not now as it will unbalace the already fragile Diplo state.

I'll upgrade the more elite units and spend some of that cash on research.

What do people think of trading for Surys 7gpt? Thinking Sugar as its only health for him.

Mansa has an axe fortified in the open space near Avignon so I'm worried a gally with asettler might be on its way at some point. Might consider getting a settler there (won't settle though).

We need to decide who we're going to attack first so I can move troops to the right location during my set. I'm guessing Mansa but I'd like a vote on this.

@ Meiz. Trebs may still be some way off till we have any number in a stack so I was feeling mass cats were ok in the interim. I'll mostly build Maces this set so no sweat.

Paris: It's good as is, but can accommodate another population point if we build a Colosseum or an Islamic Temple. Whether it's worth the 120:hammers: investment or not is debatable, but under Bureaucracy this should be a 6-7 turn build, or with rearrangement losing the specialists down to 4-5. Just a thought.

Avignon, Tours, Orleans, Marseilles, Lyons, and Grenoble are all whippable either now or soon. Marseilles, although not short on food by any stretch, possibly could benefit from an Aqueduct after the Market, but I can see the reasoning in the Temple (Priest) while we're sticking with Slavery.

Chartres, I agree on the Monastery.

I assumed that we still had Mansa in our sights. Hit the Iron area first. Take the continental cities and probably settle for peace (lots of technologies) leaving him with a single city on an island for finishing off at some later point.

Personally I like the idea of Vandal > Missionaries, but I'd avoid adopting Christianity while Suryavarman's still Islamic and the threat of a Khmer invasion could lead to problems for the northern cities if our stacks are still in Mali (i.e. rather not fight on two fronts). With that said, (again) I'd look squarely at the Khmer as our next target.

Definitely agree, we should take all cities on our continent and sue peace for lots of techs. Gao does not look much, but it gets us immediate marble and might serve as our Moai statues city. It could then concentrate solely on producing our navy.

His southern city is rubbish and I thought just raze it. But agree with the war plan.

Also I'll be a bit heavier handed on the whip than I intended, but not to heavy.

Increasing happy in Paris can wait IMO as I want to get those Maces out. This war has been to long in the making!

Might play a few turns this evening and finish tomorrow unless people want me to wait. If I don't play some today It'll be Monday evening before I can finish up and report.

PFT

I move some units around fidle the production in cities and generally get set to hit enter.

Paris, Xbow > Mace

3

Avignon, I whip the CH.

4

Chartres, whip the Monastary
Orleans, whip the CH
Marseilles, whip the Market
Rheims, Cat > Mace
Avignon, CH > Market

5

Orleans, CH > Mace
Marseilles (I'm really starting to hate typing that for some reason), Market > Temple
Vandal, Monastary > Christian Missionary
Chartres, Monastary > Temp (more culture)

6

Paris, Mace > Mace

7

IBT we Sury decides he hates us more than Wang and we become his worst emermy.

I realise I should have whipped the CH in Lyons last turn. Doh! Decide to just let it slow build the rest rather than 1 pop whip it.

Our SoD so far. I'm keeping it here so Mansa can't see it near his border.

We should be ready to DoW during Cam H's set by my estimate.

Keep building commerce/beaker/gold multipliers in the new commerce cities.

Select a city to become a Christian Missionary pump (Marseilles?).

I didn't upgrade any troops as I thought we should just see what we need when we DoW, or rather just before we DoW. To this end make sure all our gold doesn't go on research.

I left those troops up on our N border as I don't trust Sury if we DoW on his best friend. Maybe get a mace/ pike or 2 out up there to add to the protection.

After Paper we should probably go Education. What do people think of UoS. We have no state relgion and not all the cities have the relgious buildings but it would be easy to build. I lean on no ATM as we're building troops.

Workers to consentrate on Rouen (I brought some Lego there once).

If we build about 2/3 farms for Vandal we can support the rest of the tiles as Workshops (I think). Whn farming consider we may want to irrigate a future city in the empty space S of Vandal.

Ummm. Maybe more thoughts later.

The Save

Very quick glance at the save ... looks good. Well done. :)

Maybe we can consider sending a Warrior (e.g. the one that's in Paris) to scout out Mali territory while we're still at peace and have Open Borders to get a better feel of what we might be running into.

There was also an earlier suggestion that we destroy Mali's Iron Mines with Spies as a lead up to war.

The stack we have is looking pretty well ready to go. I'm not sure if we need to wait 10+ more turns for Trebuchets to join in, but happy enough to play it safe and add in a few more units to be certain of our success.

Thinking 10 more turns to get some more melee units so we can garrison and advance faster.

Just remembered I haven't put the Medic chariot in the stack. I think its in Chartres. If scouting is wanted then just use one of the units from the SoD I reckon.

Don't forget the Mali axe that is near the unsettled city site....

I can't play for a while so could Cam_H swap with me?

Ps. we can easily pillage both irons as they are next to our borders. No need to play with spies.

I'm happy to swap. I'll play in half a day if any extra suggestions are forthcoming from all of the roster, and a day if I've not heard prior to then if that's OK.

I tell him what I think of alien freaks who just lost a war against us.

Keep some cash on hand in case we need to upgrade some of those.

I agree with Meiz that taking away Mansu's iron is the key. IIRC, he has no copper.

Cam, feel free to go with cats only.

(Away from Civ computer again although ... )

My thinking is that we declare towards the end of this / now my turnset. I'd really would have preferred to take out his Iron with Spies a few turns before we attack, but we probably don't have the time now if we're going to get this underway pretty soon.

I'm also thinking of hoarding more gold for 2-4 turns for upgrades. As noted earlier, I really like to have 100:gold: sitting in our accounts for offsetting the impact of negative random events, and this leaves us with 120:gold:. Obviously the upgrades you guys have identified will cost a lot more than that. I suspect it's highly likely that Suryavarman will gladly get bought into war with us by Mansa. I take it we just play defensively to this conflict.

I'm also thinking that we might have to split the stack in two to take Kumbi Salah and Djenne more or less on the same turn, but I'll take another look and listen to any of your views before committing to this.

I won't get to Gao by the end of my turnset, but are we still going to raze it?

Supermedic with Great General? Personally I like to attach these to Melee / Gunpowder units so they can get Woodsman III as well as the Medic I-III and Morale and Leadership promotions, but grandad seems completely obsessed with our Medic Chariot.

Umm... no :p

I can't open the save but I think we should be able to split the stack and then combine them later easily if needed.

I have no big feelings towards Gao. As I mentioned, it could serve as Moai statues city, but I won't miss it if we decide to burn it :)

I have used chariots as super medics mainly because of the mobility. With +1 movement promotion (morale?), it can easily move from stack to another within enemy territory as well. Medic 3 is so broken that I have never missed woodsman 3 on top of that

I was thinking maybe Kumbi Salah as the Moai city but Goa could be kept if you wanted it there. Otherwise raze it I reckon.

Probably take Gao last IMO.

If Sury does come knocking then just hold him off.

If you feel you can kick this party off this set some point then feel free. Just keep produciing troops. Maybe turn off sci after paper is in. And spread Christianity. And..... you know the score ;)

No preference on either decision. But, if I'm understanding you correctly, you're looking for a Woodsman 3 that also has Medic 3 plus Morale and Leadership? Oh my you conserve your units much better than I usually do! Remind me to pay attention to this, I usually go with the philosophy that quantity has a quality all it's own.

I'm thinking this is a good idea, so we probably shouldn't do it. :crazyeye:
