Regarding MP sync error in every CIV release and expansion since at least CIV4, I have posted the below reply to a thread on the issue.

Does anyone know if there is any word of this issue being investigated and resolved in Civ6?

--------------------------
this MP sync issue is prevalent in EVERY release AND expansion since civ4.

it's not just a particular patch.

it doesn't matter who hosts.

all my MP games have been with one other human, and around 10 AIs on fractal or shuffle, on the largest map size, on epic speed (or the one below 'marathon' - i forget')

it usually occurs after year 1800. So a lot of time is invested before MP sync occurs.

the issue is clearly obviously from the masses of google hits when searching.

it's UNFAIR and the vendor has NO RIGHT to continue to release expansions and game revisions with the same bug that renders an advertise feature - multiplayer - useless.

I'm a working man, and i CAN afford to pay for release after release and expansion after expansion, hoping and yearning for a working MP feature, and it's clear the vendor preys on this. After 8 releases, it has become both an insult from and an embarrassment for the vendor.

It seems obvious to expect that the upcoming release of CIV6 will also advertise a non-functioning MP feature. So will do my _best_ not to buy.

I believe 2K games should return everyone's money to the people who have paid for every CIV game with non-functioning MP.

It's most frustrating because the CIV games are SO DAMN GOOD. Better than <insert addictive drug here>.

I have written this information in a diplomatic manner to 2K Games consumer advocate and not even had a response.

They're liars, cheats, and have NO RIGHT to continue to release games and expansions with REPRODUCIBLE GAME STOPPING BUGS. It's REPRODUCIBLE guys. You've had 10 years to fix. You have a bunch of coders, devvers, producers and testers. Why has it not been made a priority over simply making more releases?

Grrrr.

They've said there would be more focus on MP in Civ 6.
In earlier Civs it just was an afterthought. A little addition. As they saw Civ primarily as a singleplayer game, not so much a multiplayer game.

I think the rise of Civ multiplayer in Civ 5 (it wouldn't surprise me if Civ 5 was played more in multiplayer than singleplayer), they decided to put multiplayer more central.

Or maybe it's just talk.

It's just talk, obviously. Civ6 diplomacy is SP-only, much more than in Civ5, for example, where initial thought behind diplomacy was to make it MP-compatible.

However, Civ6 seem to have overall more development resources than Civ5, so they may have dedicated network developers to make better MP code. No info about that, though.

There has been very little stated officially on MP, other than they are working on a good MP experience with designed shorter MP game options. I'm positive they are not blind to the problems of Civ5 MP, or even past games. Civ4 was the best MP experience to date, though Civ3 after a couple expansions was good enough. I really hope that Firaxis is working with Steam engineers to make this the most stable and streamlined MP code base to date. And that we have all the options we expect from past games, PBEM, Pitboss, etc. As well as robust mod support for MP, as that is what makes a game re-playable for years(like C3C has been).
