Online petition for an updated Civ III editor

@I_batman

We didn't ever seriously want the code, we were just joking about it. And I do agree with everybody else that Civ4 is only moddable to the coding-sound, and not everybody is. In that regard, Civ3 is more moddable, and some people use creative ideas to alter some concepts, such as El Justo.

Well, if you look through this thread that started a year ago, it was started with serious intention of talking about getting the code. As for StormRage's opinions on the value of posting on this site, well he has his, I have mine.

But one thing is abundantly clear: One person has posted to the link I provided. I was hoping for a dozen this weekend. Clearly, I am wrong about the demand for the Civ III code. I thought I knew of a few hard-liners who are desperate for it, but it appears I am wrong. Seems most posters are happy with the awful game engine, or don't care, or figure there is no chance of getting the code. I myself put the chance at one in million, but I am so angry with Take2 I will use every avenue to let them know my anger and frustration. It is quite clear that I am in a very small minority, and most accept Take2's decision.

That, and/or most posters can't be bothered to spend the 8 minutes to register to another site and echo my views on the code.

I look at the umpteen hours some have spent on this thread alone....ah, who am I kidding....like I said at the beginning, Civ III is dead. I blame Take2 for 95% and the apathetic Civ III fans 5%.

For those who enjoy the game in its far from perfect state, have fun with it. I will say it again, I am finished with it as soon as I am done my TCW commitments.

And for the moderators, if I ever manage to hack the source code, I will have no compunction about giving instructions to all about accessing the code. Take2 has complete legal domain in this area, but have abrogated any moral responsibility regarding Civ III.

I batman,

I just posted at 2K supporting your demand for the release of the source code.

Really hope that more CFC-people will do so.

You have made a great work on this issue, no matter how it will end.

OMG, I horribly missread your posts I_batman. I apologize, I`m sorry

I missed the Civ part of the thread`s name, and thought it was some other guy`s thread about being pissed off at Take2 for another game, and that we should join in. Sorry, I was being an ass.

- `kay, I posted too :)

Thank you all for posting at the 2K site.

I must apologize. I am indeed passionate about the game, and sometimes my frustration boils over in the choice of words I type.

I just think of what this game could be, and get so angry.

Stormrage, don't sweat it man. I don't think my link was precise enough.

I believe I will post a new thread with a link. I thought about it this weekend, and I want to give this one more final concerted effort to get through to 2K.

I will create a thread that simply has a link to the 2K site, and refers back to this thread. I want to get this in front of all the remaining Civ III players.

You have my support!

That thread looks very interesting. I'd comment right now, but I'm a bit busy. Gonna register and comment tomorrow (it's a good sign when more people join the conversation later, anyway, it means the effort didn't have just first moment support ;)).

There are 2k people there with acounts. The acount names are 2k firstname. Perhaps we can send them a private message.

I'm sure even some CIV players would support it, most of em played CivIII at some stage.

Sorry I_batman, I seem to have misunderstood your post.

BTW, are there any specific requirements to post on your link, because even after I registered, I couldn't post.

Email registration.

I personally have given up hope for the Civ 3 game code...I believe that (Like we have been told) that it has been lost to bureaucratic BS, and neither Take2 or Firaxis has it...

I would like to hold onto the hope, that this community is an adequate representation of the heart of the Civ community. In that I would like to hope that the programmers of Civ 5 would not see Civ 4 as a failure (It surely isnt) but as a "Badly taken" step forward...Im sure some things were learned, that could be implemented in a fifth game. But I also think that mechanics are more important that graphics, and I hope that the Civ 5 people understand that. Flashy graphics last a day, a good game lasts a lifetime...The fact that Civ 3 is still alive and strong, should tell them that the mechanics are more important. Customizability(I know its not a REAL word) is MORE IMPORTANT than making a great game...Make us an engine, and we will use it. We just want options to expand beyond our programing (The CFC community has gone AI!)

I would still support the requests for the Civ3 code, if it ever is admitted that someone HAS it...until then, I look forward to SSS and I hope we can affect Civ V

(This has been Spacer One's 2 cents...)

I was told last year by Jason Bergman of 2K that the code was not lost. I too had given up on this code availability, until this site kind of dropped into my lap. Will 2K listen to us. Extremely unlikely. But we are desperate.

And I certainly don't want to wait around to Civ V. We don't even know IF there will a Civ V, let alone when it will appear. And I take issue with one thing you said. I don't believe Civ III is going strong. Alive, yes. But interest is waning. Ask some of the key modders about the level of activity in their threads. Look at the number of people online at any given time in the Civ III forums.

We need the code to breathe life back into the game. This is our last shot as far as I can tell. We need everyone to post at the 2K site. Ask everyone you interact with to post on that site.

Let's at least push hard enough to get a response. Like Steph suggested, a message directly to the 2K moderators may be necessary. But I would like to build some momentum on that 2K site first.
