Online petition for an updated Civ III editor

...in some ways Civ IV is more moddable and there are some things that are really good - e.g. as many leaders as you like per civ, as many civs as you like in the mix...

In my humble opinion, that's exactly why we need an updated Civ3. Because if it had that kind of flexibility, it'd be more or less perfect.

Too right; I totally agree with you - that's why I started the thread over a year ago. I just doubt we'll ever see such an update and hope that they'll take on board these comments for a future edition.

I wish theyd do it to. But faceing shareholder revolt I don't think take two will go with such a bold new bussiness plan.

Oops... I accidentally posted the same thing twice...
Yeah, it does seem unlikely that they'll update an outdated version of the game when they're working on a new one... and you're right; if they would keep these comments in mind for the later versions, that would be a good thing.
There are still those of us who won't be able to run later versions, but if I really wanted to, I probably could eventually get a new computer or upgrade the one I have. Still, I do hope they make an updated Civ3. It'd be pretty surprising if they did, but we can still hope. :religion:

I'd be willing to bet you 100 to 1 odds. but yes don't upgrade I can play civ4 with a c computer that I use for non civ things. Butn it's not fun.

I think this thread's older than me!

Hey, it's great to see how a worthwhile thread like this JUST WON'T DIE!

That's the way it should be, after all. The more we keep this idea alive - the more people get involed - and the more likely it will be that we get the results we want.

btw - great ideas Empress and Dominatrix

I hope that they reign back in the graphics, interface, and sound effects in the next Civ because in Civ4 they were everywhere. Some stuff should just be left alone, because then nothing makes sense, and it's hard to be efficient. Nowadays playability is somewhat sacrificed for looks. Sure Civ4's graphics are more advanced, but Civilization is a game with unique, simple, obvious things, and that's why it's so good. The only other game like that THAT I KNOW OF is Empire Earth original. I think that in Civ5 they should include fancy graphics, interface, music for those who like it, and basic graphics, interface, and music for those who want it. Now that's a game I would get.

Yeah, that's a good idea. I do kind of like the touch of extra realism the advanced graphics in Civ 4 add, but other than that, I don't know if it's really worth it. They just slow everything down and make the game harder to run and to mod (at least graphics-wise). In fact, I'm not sure, but I think that may be at least part of why it doesn't work on my computer...

That's why if the next couple Civs keep this up, there will be a very limited market for the game because nobody can play it. We should send Firaxis a list of these ideas so that Civ5 can be better. I think the way they should make the Civs is the odd numbered ones should be similar and the even numbered ones should be similar so that they get that many more buyers.

All in all, release the code for civ3 and we`re happy :mischief:

But they won't. So let's support a Civ V that (hopefully) brings back some civ III spirit. I don't know anything about programing, so civ IV was\is out of my league. The graphics are hard to mod, and there's no editor .

Thus, CIV V needs to have:
+ a Civ limit that (A: is adustable, or (2: is a high number (60-100???)
+ Graphics and animations that are based off popular graphic programs (Bryce, Poser, Povray, ect.)
+ An editor, more specificly, GUI based, and UF (User Friendly). Simmilar to the civ III editor. (On a side note, the worldbuilder feature is cool, so that should stay)
+ A relased code, for advanced modding.
+ Multiple leaders, great people, civics, ambient terrain, all those great things that were added in civ IV, but some need tweeking (for example: civics need to be parts of goverment, not replacements)
+Go back to Civ III (? Civ II ?) on certen areas.
+ (A personal note: I hate Civ IV for the unfair combat that I get into and zooming-by tech tree [ I was finding it dificult to have a moment of nothing-ness, when I had built all the buildings available to me at the time, and I could have time to build larger things; army, wonders. But in Civ IV, there was always something...]
+ Optionaly Advanced Graphics (2D or 3D, Hmmm... :hmm: )
+ Advanced AI!!! (Overseas invasions, raids, wondering peoples option, Space AI, corect usage of all options/settings ect.)
+ Come on, throw some ideas at me...

I too would kill for a revamped Civ III :backstab: , but it seems that that front is one we aren't winning :ar15: , so let's focus on Civ V, a game we just might have a say in it's creation.

Do you know how much effort it took us to just get a "no" from them? If you look at Civ4, and now that Revolution crap.. you`ll see that they abandoned the original civ. They set a new course, a completely different one.

I visited countless Civ3 VS Civ4 threads, and in all the empty yelling, one dude said that civ4 isn`t actually a sequel to civ3, its a completely new game. That apparently sells. And they`re in it for the dinero.

Is there even 50 of us guys that are regulars here? I`ve seen quite a few people gone missing lately, too. They might listen to us. But even if they do, we`ll end up with another Civ4 with some of the Civ3 features, and AFAIK, we want it the other way around.

Exactly. Civ3 and Civ4 have so little in common that Civ4 should be called Civilization Revolution and Civilization Revolution should be Civilization Revolution 2.

Yes. It seems Civ 3 was the last "classical" game of the Civ series. May be things are getting better again, when Sid´s son is getting a little bit older and can convince his daddy, that easy moddable graphics are better than smoking 3d-funnels, a more historical touch is better than a Mickey Mouse-game and earth is bigger than 5 cities. :D
