Instead, sign a petition for more civs.

I'm not trying to make any sort of value judgement on these civilizations and their place in history, I'm just trying to make a SWAG at which ones will stay in the game.

I am outraged that sombody even dared suggest that the Indians did not make the cut.
It would have been ridiculous if the 300 year old American "Civilization made it but not the 5000 year old Indian.
I dont think the same colour groups are going to be kept in mind when certain civs are cut out.

My theory is that this is being developed by a for-profit, US company, and that, while the game is sold worldwide, most of their revenue will come from the US market. Almost the entire game is based on an Occidental view of the world with a strong leaning toward US jingoism. That is the basis for why I thought the Indians would be the most likely dropped purple civ. The Sioux might be percieved as more familiar (and perhaps more "PC") in the key US market. Despite it's long history, most Americans probably don't think of India as ever having been a world power. (Not that they think the sioux were either, but if it didn't happen in the last 200 years, it may as well not have ever happened

) Many people are pulled in by the military aspect of the game and when your most recognized leader preaches non-violence, it probably doesn't score a lot of points on the market research polls.

Because of this, I was guessing that only certain types of civs being kept: Post-industrial powers (thus chinese and japanese survive with the western powers), Well-known early civs that formed the basis for western civilization (e.g., egypt, greek, roman), and Native American cultures.

No offense was intended!

French? Please keep them in. I need something to shoot at.

I always thought it was a shame they introduced the Carthaginians - who gives a damn about them? (except Tunisians

) - and didn't give the orange colour to us Dutch people. I've changed it very soon in the Dutch.

I want to see more than 7 Civs in a game - the ideal number would be 10(reason ?), maybe 12 max. The overall number to chose from should not be less than Civ2 - that would be a backward step. I also like the idea of a limited number of Civ specific units, however if that is the reason Firaxis are going to limit the number of Civs then I would happily trade-off Civ specific units.

If the posts on this thread are a reliable guide, most Civfanatics want more Civs in the game. Which leads me to suggest that the Moderators of this Forum should run a poll to determine the views of Civfanatics on this issue and communicate the results to Firaxis post haste - we are the consumers of their product!

Whilst Civ-specific units might be a nice thing to see I would hardly call it necessary, and it might be a bit hard to figure out a unique one for each Civ, as frankly, some Civilizations have hardly ever had anything in the military ( or otherwise to be classed as a "unit" ) that was very different from another Civ's.

But if they stay at the 7 Civ per game level in Civ 3 I will be thoroughly disappointed!

This is one thing I've definitely hoped for a change on. The total number of Civ's don't bother me overly, I can always change the names and stuff of them to create the ones I need. Tho' admittedly I would welcome a few new ones instead of lessening them, but what with the leader animations to be done and all that might not happen...

I don't mind the limit on the Civs. I think it is important to concentrate on Quality, not Quantity. If they put in 30 civs, then there will be no room left for the game and then we're back to square one.

I'll sign it. I think there should be more than 7 civs. I never liked this limit in Civ II and I am cerainly disappointed that there will not be more in Civ III.

I am appauled b teh fact that onyl 7 civs will be admitted per game. I whole-heartedly sign the petition.
As for the total number, i'd like to see more than 16 total, maybe 22 or so (just liek that number, id unno why) with a maximum of 10 civs per game. Im pretty sure my old computer couldnt' handle anymore than that.
As for the UUs, i think they are stupid. The intent of civ isn't to recreate history exactly, but isntead to offer a maluable version of history. It's supose to put all civilizations on realative equal footing and see what kind of damage thier famous leaders and the player can inflict. To see that if, perhaps, if teh souix could run the world, or the russian challange america during eht cold war and come out, or the english emerge form thier island and conqure the world (my favorite). But, im guessing the UUs are the result of market researchand the induvidualization of each civ.
I must say, it is a sad sad day when the bottom line outweighs the overall enjoyment of the game. afterall, if they were to keep all us civ-fanatics realativly happy, i'm sure we wouldn't step back from crying the games glories fomr thei highest rooftops to all those who woudl listen, thus, boosting sales.
