OoS... A lot!

Hi everyone,

I play with 3 other friends a weekly game of FFH and Wild mana. Last night we had a constant stream of OoS while basically nothing was changed in our setup/hardware and such. Only thing different was that we installed the last patch "j". The OoS would sometimes come after first pressing turns, but sometimes we could play 10 turns orso before an OoS hit. And it wasn't just one person, about everyone has had a OoS with the other 3 players. In playtesting it seemed to work fine while in a two player multi.

A few questions:
1. anyone else have similair experiences?
2. If not, anyone any thoughts? We are using Hamachi as VPN protocol, operating systems are XP32bit sp3, XP64bit sp3, XP32bit sp2, Vista32bit sp1 and Vista64bit sp1. FFH, wildmana and such latest versions.
3. Any change that OoS can be caused by the mods themselves, or BUGmod or something similar?

thz in advance!

Been getting OOS constantly too. They happen 200-250 turns into a game on epic speed with 20 bots.

The funny thing is, is that we save and reload, and the OOS doesn't repeat itself until 10 turns later.

try clearing the game cache by holding down the shift key while loading the mod

I got the same experience... save and reload and we're good to go for 2 to 10 turns most of the time... just so annoying to have to save and reload all the time :)

My friend and I were playing an older patch (G) I think and werne't getting any OOS' once we got rid of Kuriotates and Hell stuff. We upgraded to Patch J (which if I understand correctly has imported some Wild Mana stuff) and we have been seeing OOS' much more frequently.

We tried playing Wildmana with the actual mod prior to Patch J and we had a ton of OOS' as well and went back to playing vanilla and they disappeared until we went to patch J.

This leads me to believe there is most likely something in Wildmana that is causing more OOS' then normal and it has now been imported into the main code base.

I have not seen any multiplayer OOS on patch J. Were you using Gamespy or Hamachi? or even another type of server?

As far as I know hamachi does not suffer OOS with Patch J

Also, we were playing base FFH, as in un-modded FFH2. Did anyone have altered files of some-sort?

Re-patching could work, as its possible there were slight differences in the "initial" patch J, and what came later ... happens in Fall Further patches sometimes.

I would recommend re-patching, and if problem persists see if patching back down helps at all. If it doesn't you might need to try a clean re-install of FFH.

I too have been plagued by OOS's in multiplayer with friends. Before the new patches we never got the errors in base FFH. Orbis was unplayable and FF worked pretty well without ranged combat, scions and kurios.

I wish I knew what Tasunke and his 3 friends are doing differently. I can barely get 2 players to work w/o OOS 3 is impossible and 2 only lasts for a certain number of turns.

stop by on a Saturday or Sunday @ around 12-1 eastern, and we will see.

Hamachi networks are FFHRP, FFHRPII, and FFHFFA ... no passwords required.

Or not even a Sat or Sun, just drop by and see if we can get a non-OOS game going for testing purposes if nothing else.

One thing that may help is that we ALWAYS play on quick-speed, so we rarely get past turn 250 or what-have-you. we also play with turn timers, generally medium speed (although faster turns are usually encouraged)

Gonna try a complete reinstall of the game and so is my friend.

Also, tried over the internet (gamespy) and over hamachi. It makes no difference.

*edit* Anyone know how to enable the OOS logger?

What is it that typically causes OOS in a situation where everyone has the same files? Events or something else? My friend and I have been having a hard time playing FFH together at all.

Recently got a new PC and did a new full install there.. That didnt work for me. Went back to playing from my old pc :(... Then i copied the entire directory from my old PC to my new PC, but didnt reduce the OoS's either....

We play unmodded with latest patches and such. We had it working fine for month's and only last week orso it started coming apart. the three others claim they haven't changed anything in their setup, except installing the latest FFH patches (Wildmana still at 5.0 which hasn't changed for a long time).

As VPN we use Hamachi. Never had problems with that either.

Any of the Dev's of FFH/WM have a clue about this? Seems more ppl suffer from it, not just my playing group (up to, can't play at all, some posts above here).

thz in advance!

We are also experiencing a lot more OOS issues since patch h, we have tried 7 games with 4 players (we are playing on a standard size highlands map with 4-5 AIs) and all of them have gone OOS somewhere between turn 120 and 250.

It varies from patch to patch, because they're all different bugs to fix. There could be several possible reasons in the same version. I really recommend using patch g for multiplayer. It's been very solid for us. We returned to it after a while with h and i, and we're now waiting for a patch where the notes mention at least some OoS fixes.

Tasunke & all either have really good luck or something in their preferred settings avoids the most likely causes of OoS.

Sorry to keep pressing, but I'm genuinely curious about the cause of OOS. From my understanding if everyone has the same files then OOS should be impossible (or that's the idea.) So I'm wondering what causes this not to be true? Any examples might help me understand, I don't need to know every cause.

I would love to get more information on this as well. As it stands my friends and I don't even want to play. Every time the game gets interesting -- BAM OOS every 2 turns and we have to start over. It's very disheartening.

Hmm, as far as preferences that we choose ... its generally small or standard size pangea, with low or medium sea level, usually no tech trading and require complete kills is on.

I wish I had more testing data to work with. I hadn't even played h or i patches, I pretty much went straight from patch g to patch j ... so im not sure if its something started post-g which our settings are somehow immune to, or if we are merely immune to un-forseen bugs that arise in patch j. For further information, I am running the XP OS, while several people I play with run Vista.

1. sounds like a not so good Internet connection.
2. You could try to use a different progamm like Wippien or try other things to get a better connection
3. I have already written some code that hopefully will make these OOS disappear. Since I get them only very rarely, like once every 300 turns, I don't know how effective the code is, but so far got no OOS anymore.

The OOS logger is activated by default I think. The logs are in the Beyond the Sword folder (ooslog.txt or so)

Hi, with my friend we are playing lots of games. But every game must end because of OOS. Even when we play at our local LAN, around turn 200 or so we must quit - every turn an OOS. When we play over internet (direct IP connection) from our homes, we get OOS around turn 100. What is strange, sometimes OOS is shown after pressing end turn like for 2seconds, then it !!disappears!! and we can continue...strange. I don't really know why...:( We are using: random seed;all unique features.
