You can capture the Pyramids and then use it. Capturing the Oracle is useless. So I voted Oracle.

That depends on your situation. I've noticed that only 1 times out of 4 (out of my 3 games) are the Pyramids built by a neighbour of mine. Of course, if you're playing pangea, then this is definitely the way to go.

I would say that the Oracle is not as useful as it is made out to be even though I often try to build it. I do tend to use it for a Theology slingshot to found Christianity; but I've been using great spies early from the great wall, and you can steal many of the ancient and early classical techs very cheaply by shooting for alphabet.

So, the single technology from the Oracle is useful for the boost and an expensive tech, but even just in the near term, I can fill in my ignored techs quickly with my spies and then use the Pyramids boost to advance on the path for my selected research focus.

Both are extremely good, especially when I use Sitting Bull of the NA .
The Mids are good for that Representation which is nice to have with Philosophical leaders . However , If I see a chance to hit Feudalism with slingshot from the Oracle I do it . The chances arn't always there and I might be more moderate and slingshot to Monarchy .

Sitting Bull with early longbows . :p

I just played a game on Prince and I managed to hit Feudalism with the Oracle pretty early . In fairly quick time I had longbows , totem poles , barracks , theocracy , and vasslage .

Thats a ridiculous amount of promotions .

Depending on who I'm playing, no early tech gives me what I get from the Pyramids early on... If I'm spiritual and/or going for a hybrid/specialist economy, pyramids all the way. Otherwise? I guess I'd pick Oracle first... But I'm not sure I play anyone who should going for early wonders (outside of stonehenge) who meets my oracle over pyramid requirements.

i win the oracle race 99% of the time. usually get metal casting of CoL. sometimes if im doing really well, i go for something a little more advanced, like stealth.... i kid i kid!!!

pyramids is always touch and go. i had one start where i had so much production and food in my capital that i could build it in 20 turns. thats not too shabby. usually i dont bother with them, cos they are so expensive.

Heh, I normally just go for Great Wall, if any.

If I'm going to be running specialists, and I've got a city with lots of woodland/access to stone, then I'll probably have a bash at the Pyramids. I don't really go for Oracle that often. Only if I'm confident I can slingshot to Code of Laws or some other fairly expensive tech.

Not if you have War Chariots :D :D :D

Maybe I'll have to try a game as Hatty or Ramesses. I can't recall playing as the Egyptians before. The War Chariot looks good, but the UB not so much. Ramesses is IND so you probably can get the Pyramids.

Would've been even crazier if it was Churchill of the NA!

Oracle. I certainly make use of specialists (a big GP farm is a must, and I'll go Caste System when available to run a big pile of them in my most heavily fooded city), but even when playing a Phi leader, they never form the backbone of my economy, as they inhibit growth too much for my taste, and I prefer Hereditary Rule to Representation.

However, my favorite wonder of that era is called "8 Axes and a Medic III chariot". I often go for the oracle, but I always go for the Axe wonder.

Ramses definitely... My Ramses Emperor game has me getting Stonehenge, pyramids, and often going to a successful war chariot war... Usually founding a religion to boot. I love the way that guy plays.

Actually the symbiosis between Industrious to get the mids and run rep, and his UB makes it for a awesome early Priestbased economy.

I'll join the minority of peeps calling for the Great Wall with aggressive barbs. Between the two listed choices, I'm a slight lean to the oracle, unless philosphical.

Usually the Oracle. I find that often, the amount of hammers needed to build the Pyramids is too high early on, so the Oracle is a higher priority. I have also noticed that Pyramids seems to be down the list in terms of priority for the AI, so I can often leave it a bit longer before building it and still get it, whilst if I leave the Oracle for a bit, it will be gone.

I'm not sure The Pyramids are lower on the priority list Bongo... They just take so long to build (without being ind/having stone/tons of forest to rush) that the CPU doesn't really chop rush it, and their relatively poorly designed (from a production standpoint) early cities take forever to build it. The Oracle they get pretty fast because they often chop rush most of it... Pyramids are simply too big.

As Ramesses or Hatty however, Stonehenge is a must.
