Orthanc's Creation Thread

I dont know how much work it means but I need always some "gunpwder-time Ships" with arrow attacks for a fantasy scenario. So if You create a sailing ship with cannon attack its always nice to have an alternative arrow attack for it.

You're welcome, I'm just here to fill the need.:)

I've changed the hull to have a texture similar to the vulture, not sure if it's really feathery, but it's another go at it. I put in the oars, cabin, feathers at the back, if everything's good I'll get right onto the mast etc.

I think it looks better how it is than if yoy were to give it an arabian poop. How you going to rig it, lanteen?

Eh, re-did the poop deck anyways. I originally had a square sail in mind here, in fact that's exactly the question I was going to ask! Square rigger or Lateen (sorry Goldflash, according to Wikipedia, it's lateen)? A lateen rig would be like aaglo's Galleys here.

Meanwhile, here's the new deck, I compromised his seemingly contradictory request by making the walls wood and the roof canopy:

It seems I have a fugative letter 'n' :D

I'd give it two lateen sails- a larger one coming off the main mast on the main deck and a smaller one on the mizzen on the poop.

Ok, to start answering questions...yes, I wanted a wooden walled tent...The style of the tents (as in shape)...I wanted it to have the arabian roof style...

Foget it however, for my purposes, what you made is better...maybe not the horizontal stripes, but they could be civ-colored so it also works...

Originally I wanted it square rigged, however seeing the ship 3-d I want it Lateen, with the rear sail slightly higher than the front...did you see the Calormen crest I posted, and were you planning on using it?...[edit] after looking again, Im not sure...I think the Square rigged look might just suit it...plus it has to match the other two boats Im using(Dawn treader, and Swanship)

Finally...ITS FROM A BOOK...sorry if I cant translate a realistic looking boat from what I read, but this is (orthanc's translation of) What I see

Yep, the stripes are civ-colored. I've put the crest on the main sail, but unavoidably, since the sails are triangular, the crest gets squished into it. Might not be so bad, your call once you see the preview.

As it is, the mizzen is smaller than the main (and lacks the crest), and a bit lower. I can change this, but I'll let you see what's happening first:

EDIT: The cabin is hidden from view in this direction, but from other angles it'll be clear.

I've been hoping for some Indonesian ships, I might try and sneak it in there depending on what it finally looks like (I REALLY want to use it somewhere! ) but I've never been real sure what a typical ship of that region looked like (I've seen some ornate shapes on a lot of southeast asian ships but not QUITE ;) like that vulture figure, though the rigging might pass).

I say ditch the crest. And don't you DARE change the rigging to square rigging. Its perfect how it is. It looks too European to be a south east asian ship and too 'have a big arse vulture on it' to be any sort of real world ship.

I love it...ditch the crest, unless you want to edit out the Shield section and use just it....and can we make the deck look "dirtier"? every time CS Lewis talks about the Calormen, he mentions they are dirty...yet that deck gleams(normally I would say nice work, and if you cant change it, fine)

As for where in the REAL world?...I can only imagine this used in a fantasy setting(I think Morganna from Willow might have one stashed somewhere)...Maybe some Warmongering Celtic/Norse tribe that settled in "some area where there are huge black vultures"...Maybe to stretch it and say that Carpatheans(sp?) or some other "Vlad the Impaler"(Romainia?) type of peoples...[edit] I looked and sure enough it COULD be stretched to be Egyptian...they have a Black Vulture headed god
