OSG 18A Honourable Humans

We can build a fighter for 18BC with BC4, Fusion, Zort armor, maneuver 4,MB cannon.

The guardian has a pretty respectable beam defense on Impossible. We need as good a computer as possible in order to be able to break its advanced auto-repair. I'll work on that before designing a fleet.

So on my turns I trade around to obtain every computer, propulsion, construction, and weapons tech I can find. I suppose obtaining more planetology tech would increase our income from planetary populations a bit but for the most part I don't bother with that. I do, however, find the Sakkra are willing to trade Advanced Soil Enrichment for High Energy Focus, so I pull the trigger on that deal. I also rebalance our tech spending away from weapons, which won't help much more for miniaturizing megabolt cannons right now; the main space requirement for those is coming from the power required, which needs propulsion tech to miniaturize. Instead I dump spending back into construction (for more space on ships,) computers, (for RC VI) and planetology (for terraforming +100.) We do manage to pick up Universal Antidote and Particle Beams on my turns; terraforming +100 and Pulse Phasors are next.

At the end of my turn we are now able to design a small with BC VIII, Duralloy, Fusion Engines, Megabolt Cannon, and Inertial Stabilizer. A couple thousand of these should be sufficient to kill the Guardian.

I'm wondering, since MH asked to be skipped last 2 rounds, and hasn't said anything since then, whether he should be auto-skipped until he does show up again. Thoughts?

A quick calc by me on this BC8 design suggests causing an average 2.43 damage per ship against impossible level Guardian defence & shield with losses of up to 850 per turn from Scatter packs alone depending on asteroids and maneuvers. I would not feel safe without about 4 thousand of these but maybe I'm being cautious or you're just better at tactical combat.

You are researching Tritanium armour which would increase Construction tech level sufficient to allow a Cloaking Device to be added which would half losses from Guardian while you close in but it's probably not worth the wait.

That doesn't sound right to me, they should do a lot more than that per ship. Even an Impossible guardian only has shield level 5, and BC8 combined with the +3 from megabolts should give a much better than 50% attack probability against the Guardian. It's tough but not that tough.

As far as scatterpacks go, it's possible to partly outrun them. You can almost always get a shot in before the first batch of missiles lands if your ships are fast enough.

I based my numbers on Strategy Guide which has shield rising with defense to 9 on impossible. This gives average 3.47 hits then 70% chance from BC8+3 vs 9 defense. There are errors in this manual and I cannot recall details of last time I slayed Guardian but I thought it was tougher than shield 5.

Maybe send a scout with a scanner to check?

hi guys,
sorry, but I dont think I have time to keep this going. Real life interferred a few times so please put me off the roster.
I hope you will get it to a victory.

Very quiet turns, too.

But with Tritanium Armor, XI Shields and Drives 7 we are ready for the guardian.

The next player may decide if he wants to build the tiny or small design I envisoned or try something else to snatch Orion.

Ok--not sure if I can get it tonight but I'll try.
I think build a guardian fleet of tiny MB cannon ships.

sorry guys couldn't get to it tonight. Can't play til Monday--if someone else wants to take it that's fine otherwise I'll play Monday night EST.

We've just discovered RC VI, up from RC III, so we go on a factory building binge. Our rich worlds get pumped with our sizeable reserve to build first factories and then warships. Not at all happy with current designs as they are way too expensive per unit firepower, so I design a suitable small fighter I can mass produce. The rest of our worlds industrialize at a more moderate pace to keep some research going. Too bad we don't have a better IIT than IIT5, but we'll get there if a bit slowly.

After 5 years we have a vote, which we ignore. Don't want to win yet! Our Orion fleet is almost ready...

We transfer in a bunch of colonists from the closest worlds, transfer some of our remaining reserves, and get to work on factories. We'll probably want to start on Gaia transformation and terraforming shortly but I like to get at least some of the factories done first. The Mrrshan are not very happy about our large fleet on their border. Tough -- we are not losing Orion now that we've got it. Maybe we'll get a war out of this after all...

We've had a lot of cold war attacks on my turn and repelled all of them. The Bulrathi are merely the latest:

We should be in good shape to make a play for the next vote. We won't have 2/3 all on our own unless we provoke a war and start going a-conquesting, so failing that, we might have to butter some folks up.

Nice job with guardian and thx for the pics!

Go for it archduke!

Since our guardian fleet cannot deal with repulsor beams, we might want to upgrade our ISP ships.

Played another 10 turns.

The AI is pretty much toast, our sciene is unequalled and I design a new ship Nasty 7.0 to use the death rays.

The only real ships that attack us are HighEnergyFocus Autoblaster Sakkra ships, but our shield tech is unbeatable.

I give over to you, I have teched on, maxed more planets, build some Nasties.

I definetly think if we don´t win the next vote, we should just declare war on someone.;) I mean this is impossible, everyone and their dog should dow us.:D
