Since, hopefully, mods will be made and civs added once the game is released, and there's a large variety of nationalities here, it might be helpful to compose a list of our current and greatest, by our own preferences, historical leaders.

So here's Sweden's, my nation's, current and a few of it's greatest historical leaders:

Current leader: Göran Persson - Socialist
Major opposing leader: Fredrik Reinfeldt - Moderat (to the right...'conservative'...blue...more capitalist, likely to rule Sweden after the election -06)

Historical:
Gustav Vasa, 1496-1560 - http://66.188.129.72:5980/History/PreModernEurope/swed-4vasa.htm
Gustav II Adolf, 1594-1632 - http://66.188.129.72:5980/History/PreModernEurope/swed-7gustavadolph.htm
Karl XII, 1682-1718 - http://66.188.129.72:5980/History/PreModernEurope/swed-95absolutismreal.htm

edit: The idea is that each poster contribute with his own nation's leaders, thoughts or links.

If you have some time could you add your thoughts in brief about those historical leaders. This would be a nice thread for others to add onto. Just add the leaders from your "civ".
I'm not that wellread on these things, but here's some more info from wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gustav_I_of_Sweden
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gustavus_Adolphus_of_Sweden
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_XII_of_Sweden

...and here's the rest of the kings and queens if anyone is interested:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Swedish_monarchs

It would be nice to see which leaders are regarded as the greatest by their own 'civs', but I myself have hopes for a modern day mod with all the current leaders, nations and unions.

Please add your primeminister, president or whomever is leading your 'civ', plus his/her's major opposition.

Finland

Current leader is President Tarja Halonen (more or less the equivalent of Sweden's Persson, though female), but I'd go for President Urho Kekkonen (Prime Minister 1950-56, President 1956-81), even though he was very friendly towards the Communist Soviet government.

I'd have some sort of ski troops as a UU (of course), though it isn't actually a specialisation in the army: all soldiers are trained for ski warfare.

Great Artist: Elias Lönnrot, the composer of the national epic Kalevala
Great Scientist: A.I. Virtanen, recipient of the Nobel prize in chemistry in 1945
Great Prophet: Lars Levi Laestadius, founder of the conservative Christian movement called Laestadianism in the 19th century
Great Engineer: Jorma Ollila, the CEO of Nokia Corporation
Can't come up with anyone for the Great Merchant at the moment.

A bit more than a leader here, but it doesn't hurt. :)

The Great Merchant is obviously Vesa Keskinen, owner of the world's largest Kyläkauppa (that would be Village Store or something).

Hrmm, post your civ's great leaders? This could prove very interesting. I think I will post several US leaders.

Current leader: (US President) George W. Bush
Opposition: Democratic Party Chair Howard Dean, Hillary R. Clinton (in 2008 anyway)

Historical Figures:
1st US President George Washington
Author of DoI and President Thomas Jefferson
President Andrew Jackson
President Theodore Roosevelt
President F.D. Roosevelt (forgot his last name when I need it, always the case)
President Ronald Reagon
President Eisenhower (did I spell that right?)
President of Republic of Texas Sam Houston
President of the Confederacy Jefferson Davis
(would have been) 2nd President of the Confederacy Robert E. Lee

I realize the last two may not be seen as American Leaders but I chose according to leadership ability with the qualifications that they were from the US culture.

Let's see....

MGL Candidates

George Washington
Lafayette (technically French, but key to the Revolution being successful)
Andrew Jackson
Ulysses S. Grant
William T. Sherman [unless you're a proud Southerner :)]
Robert E. Lee [especially if you're a proud Southerner]
Teddy Roosevelt
William (???) Pershing, commander of all U.S. forces in WWI
Dwight Eisenhower
George Patton
Douglas MacArthur

"Scientific"/Cultural Great Leaders

Benjamin Franklin
John Adams
Thomas Jefferson
James Madison (Father of the Constitution)
Frederick Douglas
Mark Twain
Alexander Graham Bell
Thomas Edison
Henry Ford
Babe Ruth

(note: This list has some large holes. I'll probably be editing this soon.)

with Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and The Roosevelts as the candidates for Leader Reprsentative (FDR plus Mt. Rushmore, basically.)

America is way to complicated. We've got way too many leaders, if you count people in the Senate. Bush is head of state, though. I don't think Dean or Clinton are necessarily the opposition leaders (or if they are, that they are the only ones).

(would have been) 2nd President of the Confederacy Robert E. Lee

Kennedy, Lincoln (can't forget him!), etc.

If we just picked important people, add Franklin to that list.

Dont Forget George Washington Carver in that list of Scientific\Cultural Leaders. He Invented almost as much as Edison and dispelled the Myth of African American Inferiority. As for a Great Engineer, Frank Lloyd Wright and Louis Sullivan Come to Mind.
