Out of range

Hi guys

Just bought civ3.. and when i load it my screen says it is out of range... what can i do... any thoughts?

A little more information would be useful. Does it do it at the splash screen? Menu screen? When the games loaded? What's the exact error message? A screenshot would be helpful. What are your system specs?

I get this with some games, like Rome Total War and Pirates!, but its never happened with Civ III - I usually am able to play after restarting the computer...thats if me and you have the same error. Do you just get a message floating about on the monitor which says 'Sych Out of Range' or something? Try restarting the computer, and if that dosn't work, come back and post your CPU Spec

The errror.... is when i load the game... i think it has somethign to do with the resolution... my specs are the following

Flatron L1710S LG
1Gb ram
Amd 64 3200+
fx5600 256mb

error message simply states that the screen is out of range... isn't there any wau in changing the internal game resolution with actually loading the game..'

My friend had this problem.
I couldn't fix it.

Its goes like this. Put disk in, run game, black screen, out of range...

It sounds like the default video settings for Civ3 are not compatable with your monitor.

Try tweaking the following lines in your civilization.ini file (ptw.ini/conquests.in as appropriate):

KeepRes=1
Can be 0 or 1. If 1, your screen resolution is used for the game instead of the default 1024x768.

Video Mode=1280
Can be 1024, 1152, 1280, 1600, 1792. Changes the game's resolution to the value specified (instead of the default 1024x768).
Only the following resolutions are supported with this command:
1024x768
1152x864
1280x1024
1600x1200
1792x1344

Refresh=70
Changes the default refresh rate of your monitor. Do not change/add this line unless you are experiencing problems!

Try adding first the KeepRes=1, then try using it and the VideoMode. You can also try tweaking the Refresh rate. Check what specs you are running at normally, so you know what settings to try.

In Windows Explorer, navigate to the C:\program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization3\ folder (I think.....).

In there, you should have a file called "Civilization3.ini" - open that in a text editor (just double-click on it).

thnaks it worked.. lastly is their any internet manual... cos my freind who lent the game can't find the manual.. was lucky enough... to get his serial cos he always wrights it down on his computer in case he losses it
