P666-04 : Yet Another Trash Game

I want to give some feedback, as this was my first game with you guys. I liked this very much. My first goal was not to be the trash game every round, but I saw that I'm not that :smoke: after all :D. I was very very very happy when my game was chosen to be the best. And, thanks to you and Mice's Many Leaders Game, I think I can now say that I'm comfortable with Prince level.

I look forward to see something new for the next game. Some new set of rules, maybe improving the level to Monarch, maybe adding some wacky variant... There will be a next game, right?

Back to this game...

@Cam: Please, finish it!
@Öjevind: Please, post it!
@FB: Please, remember posting your game when you get home. Ops, sorry for that.

I'd be happy to have another trash game, probably not immediately but maybe in a few weeks time. Have to hear from Cam_H and cabert.

Mice had been talking about hosting another All Leaders Challenge so maybe he'll have time to get that off the ground in between.

I'm not against another trash game. Maybe not just now (I must spare my wife ), but in a few weeks certainly.

What would be the goal?
Level needs to be at least monarch. Prince isn't a challenge really, not for me and not for anyone here.

^ I feel a bit the same way - getting a smidge Civved out as well as concerned about the marriage! ;)

Piggy's suggestion of getting involved with the next 'All Leaders Challenge' game is good - or we could organise for a more traditional Prince-players' succession game (something like 'The One They're Afraid to Start' if fbelintani and Öjevind need an immediate 'fix' and we can rope in some other intermediate level players :) ?).

So can we call this officially over? :(

Cam, thanks for the initiative. I got into another game today (Clive01) and I think it's enough to get my wife angry (as she is right now)! So, I'm cool.
But let's page Mice about another Many Leaders Game. I PMed him as soon as he came back and he asked some weeks for he to remember how to play. I saw him in another SG, so maybe he can start this for us. ;)

Sorry about the thread jack, no where else to discuss it.

About many leaders, I joined a SG to get back into civ, but now Im having trouble getting to the computer at all. It seems we all have this problem a bit.

I would like to though. The question is level. I still get beaten on Monarch more often than not, so I could have a public defeat  Prince too easy for some , but with the same victory condition we would compete against each other...

Im almost brave enough to take on monarch online.

Again, apologies for the thread jack

Its technically possible to play different leaders on the same map as Mice has succesfully demonstrated. Is it technically possible to play different difficulty levels on the same map? For instance could player A play Augustus on prince while player B plays Peter on monarch and still compare outcomes.

Yes it's possible. I can't remember how just at the moment but I know I did it.
The only catch is it takes a bit of world builder to get the starting units right for all leaders, so the thread starter sees a lot. I'll try a few other things to see if I can do it differently.

Failing that, player A has a Monarch start, and player B has a Prince start with Monarch AI starting units. Not a bad compromise.

Although a many leaders game is "technically" cool, it's not leading to interesting discussions.
"open games" like those given by snaaty seem to lead to better comparing games.
Different levels (or just some power bonus to start with, like a free mega unit) can be cool, and lead to some interesting, not too competitive games.

It's true, the Snaaty threads are very interesting. I learn so much reading these threads. The many leaders thing is more light hearted. It doesnt produce a lot of discussions, but if you follow all the games it can be intersting to see different player styles not to mention traits etc.

I must say I gave up pretty soon, and lost interest in the games :mischief: .
What I liked about the "trash game" format is the option to go completely wrong with any exotic strat, and still continue the "same" game but from another save.
I never play the way I play in those games when I'm playing solo .

Of course, the bad thing is that you have to give up your  situation when it's going right and you're playing trash round  .

I'd be glad to play a monarch level domination game using the trash game format.

I remember getting late on the previous Many Leaders Game. I finished it about 2 weeks after the others... But I had some work issues there and I don't think I have any possibility of having the same problems right now. :)
I'm thinking about trying Monarch someday soon. I'm trying to get some more tactics in 3 offline simultaneous games. I think I'm good to try, as long as I don't get an isolated start!

I have an idea:
Mice starts another Many Leaders Game. Monarch Level, small map. That's what people say about "easing up" your level up moving, isn't it? We can see if we're ready for Monarch, while giving Cam's and cabert's wives a little time with them! And then start another trash game on Monarch. And there will certainly be more :smoke: saves than this one.

I have to say, my instinct is to go with another trash thread.

Cam mentioned that he could do with a break, and as I remember he was 'volunteered' by us to lead the thread. It can be a lot of work.

May I suggest one of us starts a new Trash thread some time in the near future, give ?Cam a well earned rest. We can discuss tweaks to the format, although I think this one got it right.
Conquest was the only thing I didnt get the hang of.

The other thing was the 2 weeks turnset. Fbelintani, you acknowledged that it was too long, and I think it killed the thread a bit. In 2 weeks you lose the narrative aspect of the thread.

Also in favour of Trash, to go from Prince to Monarch is hard! We Prince players can really benefit from this thread. I need it that's for sure.

Mice, I like the idea! Of course, if the veteran trash players allow any of us to lead the threads! :mischief:
I thought it was natural for Cam to lead these threads as well as pigswill captaining the trash team on SGoTM's. ;)

And my suggestion of a small map still applies. I think I read cabert writing something about to a "wanna level up" player sometime ago.
If no one wants, I can lead the thread. But I'd really appreciate if one of the former players do this. I can (and I WILL) do :smoke: moves.

About the turnsets... I think this discussion belongs to the new game thread, but near the end it'll be an issue, like was on this one. As we saw, raising the time didn't work well, so the solution may be lowering the size. But let me talk about it when the time comes. Sorry!

I think we'll find enough prince players wanting to move up to monarch. The problem could be finding enough monarch/emperor level players to 'save the trash game'. Technically I'm still at monarch and not as good as for instance Cam_H or cabert but maybe we'll find some volunteers.

I must say warlords monarch is hard enough for me without having anything to save
So indeed, a small map may be best (easier).
I'll go along, of course, and I'm sure if we are enough players, one of us will make a good round.
I know a lot of good players, but those games take a lot of time and I cannot garantee that any of them will want to play :mischief: .
Do we say this thread is dead, for those who finished the game, and the others?

Do you mean the map size, small?
It could work well. Small, Domination, Monacrh. I dont think it's a problem discussing the next thread here. It's the best place for it.

How about Mr.Cabert for leader/;)

I'm very honoured.
If cam changes his mind, I'll be glad to have him as king maker again

Let's see what is decided :
- small map
- monarch level on warlords
- running for domination

What leader do we run with? (I suggest stallin I never played)
What kind of map? (I think continents)
what speed? (I think normal speed)

Who's in?
I'd be really disappointed to run a trash game without cam :(.

I think we need 8 to 10 players.

Any idea of monarch+ players wanting to prove how good they are ?
