I've seen ships enter land tiles that had forts on them, so wouldn't it be possible to line up forts from one side of a continent to the other and form something similar to the panama canal?

Ships can enter forts?

Usually canals are cities on one tile wide strips of land.

I've seen a galleon docked in a fort on a desert tile so i assume its possible.

I remember reading that they can only enter forts that are on the ocean. So you can canal 1 or 2 width isthmuses, but not like, all the way across your continent.

they can in bts, but only 2 tiles for a canal

you can have fort-city-fort as a canal, but that is as far as you can stretch it.

In a recent game I connected forts cities and small 1 tile lakes to cross ten tiles of land. But the maximums above were in effect.
