Very important thread. Highly political and serious topic here. How do you make them and feel free to share a recipe.

Heres my basic mixtures. I had some today for lunch with maple syrup. If I'm feeling particuly fat I add some combination of ice cream, whipped creme and canned fruit like peaches. Its a smal mixture so you just double or triple the mixture etc depending on how many people you want to feed.

1 cup of flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 egg
1 tablespoon of melted butter/margarine
1 tablespoon suger
1 cup of milk (200ml)

mix and cook in a frying pan coated in a little butter.

I make my pancakes more like crepes. Very thin. They taste a lot better than really thick and doughy pancakes; the topping to base ratio is quite different. I love them with golden syrup and cream, and brown sugar and lemon juice is also quite nice.

I don't think American know what golden syrup is. I wanna make American style thick ones but apparently you need to use buttermilk and I've never seen it here. I like golden syrup and maple syrup, wife only like golden syrup.

I made a pancake-omelet yesterday as an experiment, it was pretty good.

Chopped mushrooms and an onion slowly fried in butter in a large frying pan.

After the schrooms are reduced and onions get translucent pour the following mix over it and let it fry under a lid on 1/3power.

4 large eggs
1 dl of flour
1 dl of cream (or milk)
a little bakingpowder
Salt and pepper

And grate some cheese over it before you put the lid on.

It tasted like something between a pancake and an omelet.
For meateaters I recomend bacon (my wife is unfortunately a vegetarian)

They have these great porkpankakes here in Sweden that we used to get for lunch in the army.

I like 'em thin with nutella spread. Just like my women.

you put Nutella spread on your women? :dubious:

I used to hate pancakes. Cos my mom made it out of this cheap dollar-store mix. Real pancakes arenot so bad.

WTH is golden syrup ?
Is it what the northern hemisphere usually calls honey ?

No. It looks like honey, tastes like a slightly weaker (and therefore more palatable) treacle. Essentially, molasses > treacle > golden syrup in strength and thickness.

Wikipedia says it exists in Louisiana.

Edit: Actually, it is a type of treacle, apparently. It's just that 'treacle' here generally refers specifically to dark treacle, whilst this is light treacle. Or something.

Made of sugar-beet, yes ?
Then I know what it is, just didn't know what it's called in english.
Anyway, I prefer honey on my pancakes.

Bisquick and maple syrup. The syrup must be maple. And it must be real maple, not that supermarket crap. Best is bought straight from the farmer.

I'm usually underwhelmed by pancakes, but I love me some homemade cornmeal cakes.

Grab a box of pancake mix. Just add water, oil, eggs, and whatever else the box suggest and go from there.

I just use the instructions on the Bisquick box.

As do I. And they taste rather delicious (though it may just be that I have been raised upon these pancakes and so they taste better than they actually are).

I top them with peanut butter and Aunt Jemamima light syrup

Maple syrup is the best part of pancakes and french toast. I can't imagine using anything else.

Pancakes are pretty versatile. I'm not super into syrup (although I'll eat it). I also sometimes use peanut butter, jam, butter, or whatever fresh fruit I have in the fridge.
