Paradox Interactive games

Ok I bought Victoria, based on finding the EU 3 demo to be too much like a glorified RTS version of Risk. Now I'm finding Victoria way under-explained and the popup window interface and province clicking is way too much micromanagement, way more than Civ has ever been accused of. The game play does give me ideas for moding Civ4 though. What's the best way to play Victoria?

:yup: Specifically, one that picks up at the end of EU3, and goes to 2030 (or further).

Exactly. I'm new to EU3 but blown away by the game, and would love to see somethign spanning from Napoleon to nowadays (and beyond). No reason to think it wont be something like this.

Take some small nation, that also colonizes, like Belgium or Netherlands. That way you'll get the good parts of big nations(big land areas in Africa) and the good sides of small nations(not much micromanagement). Another option is to load Victoria Improvement Project, start with British India and rampage through Asia.

For comparison Hearts of Iron 2 had 2600 provinces including sea zones.

It's christmas in august :-D

I liked HoI 2, though the AI was pretty poor, so I will keep an eye on this, but I don't know if I will buy it. I just can't muster any enthusiasm for that ugly 3D engine Paradox have insisted on using of late.

Awesome. I always loved how many provinces Vicky had. Though, 10,000 is still alot more than Vicky. :ack:

My brain nearly exploded when I tried to visualize these 10,000+ provinces. It almost seems assured that some sort of Vicky-style system will be in place for factory management.

Not almost - Johan already confirmed it over on the Pdox boards. Factory management will be at the region level, where a region is a group of provinces.

So I have until Q3 2009 to wrap up my HoI2 AAR's? Neat.

Still might have preferred Vicky 2 (just so they can perfect the engine) but I think this was always more likely. 10'000 provinces sounds fairly epic though.

Just imagine playing as Andorra or Danzig. :ack:

Though I would imagine this now means Goa is Portuguese again, as well as many smaller islands in the Caribbean and South Pacific.

Damn, I was really really hoping for Vicky 2, HOI3 will be excellent though. I really wish I could remember my GamersGate info so I could reinstall Vicky, my hard drive recently failed and I can't remember the information I used.
