Paradox Interactive games

No, its not the game we want yet.
I have faith in Paradox patching up most of the glaring problems though, they have plenty of experience with that part ( EU2, 3, HoI2 especially)
It does look nice but im fairly certain that if the code is anything like HoI2's, itll be bringing down powerful systems to their knees for years to come. Heck, some of my time accelerating mods for HoI2 can make my pc grind to a strandstill.

Is there any real point in developing light carriers in HoI2?

If I remember my use of them correctly (it's been some time since I played a proper game of HOI2, though) they're useful for their high detection and firing distance. They're both cheaper in IC and easier to keep up researchwise than normal carriers. Combat capability isn't all that great though; their main advantage is for your fleet's positioning.

I put one or two in surface combat groups if I'm not dedicated to using carriers in the fleet. Usually I used them whenever I'm not a nation that relied on control of the seas.

I seem to remember reading that they're very good at changing positioning quickly. So a couple of them will help your battleship or heavy cruiser fleets close to combat range, particularly against enemy carriers. They're not something you build your fleet around, but they're useful to have.

No Destroyers? how does the fleet fare against air attack? or do the carriers take care of that?

I hadn't really researched them, you kind of have a 30 ship limit to fleets as that is the highest amount an Admiral can command. They would have just slowed me down and I had lots of other things I needed to research, and my fleets were going to be operating thousands of kms away from home so I didn't want destroyers to slow them down. I also put extra AA guns on my cruisers :p

Wait, why doesn't anyone like Battlecruisers?

No idea.

Why the HELL do the paradox forums keep giving me so much trouble >_< I havn't even posted on it except once a couple of years ago.

Just fine.

Apparenty that forum can't be viewed unless you've bought HoI3...

@PrinceScamp - you can't view the technical support subforum for a game unless you buy it and
enter the game key in your user account info.

Sorry; guess I haven't been keeping tabs on who has or hasn't bought the game. Might post problem here later though if no one responds on that forum.

But doesn't this screw up the screening for your fleet? I mean, it's only capital ships; no destroyers or light cruisers would likely mean a big penalty to the rest of the fleet.

Also, I've never used regular carriers as Germany. I think they're either better suited for using a normal surface fleet where Raeder gets a decent job done as tech team on the Fleet-in-Being path of naval doctrine, or keep a submarine navy and rely more on Dönitz as the primary naval doctrine team.

I'd planned on it, just didn't have the time to do it last post. Not sure if anyone will actually be able to help me, I just figured I'd check the internet before I venture out into the real world for help that costs money.

Upon finally getting HoI3 after searching high and low, I installed the game and began the start up. This took the usual lengthy amount of time as the manual said it would, with the proper pictures popping up as things were initializing and being created. But when the start up was finally finished, and the menu was suppose to come up, I got this: http://s565.photobucket.com/albums/ss98/Cthulhu318/?action=view&current=Screeny1.jpg

I can in no way tell what the problem is, or what part necessary for the computer to play the game is causing the problem. This photo is an example, because as the game plays, the pattern of triangles changes too. All the music plays, and I can even click on the options (Single Player, Multi Player, etc.), but this is all there is for the screen(with the exception of those inconsistent heavy black lines on the edge of the triangles).

I also get this: http://s565.photobucket.com/albums/ss98/Cthulhu318/?action=view&current=Screeny2.jpg
after I have entered what I believe is the Tutorial. The large gray shaded area was triangles of a lighter gray and red, with some icons(troops) visible until I clicked.

I'm looking for any input on this topic, because the setup is generally alien to me and my family. My graphics chip is NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, which I believe is above the minimum recommended, and the resolution is set to the same as my laptops(these were things I looked up in this forum before posting for help).

The only other information I can give right now that I believe may effect the performance is that this is all being done on a Mac. I'm using VMware Fusion to run Windows XP, and I've never had a performance issue with other games I play in Windows.

I'm rather ignorant with computers and their functions, but if you have suggestions, I can probably find what it is you're asking for information wise. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

What screening?

My submarines died like lemmings, even while in port. I built up a navy so I could invade britain, which turned out that the British navy buggered off until AFTER I had landed 70 divisons. Since the year after that all I've been doing is eliminating all the tiny fleets of, usually at most 5 ships if not 3 or less that have bene running into my patrolling lfeets. One carrier, the KMS Kan, has an extremely looooong list of enemy ships sunk, as most don't even get in range of my ship before the planes sink them.

Whenever I tried to pull off an invasion of Britain I usually ended up trying to sneak transports with a small escort past the Royal Navy.

To build a navy which can stand up to the Brits (that is, if they are there  ) takes a lot of effort and manpower I'd rather see committed to land or air power. Especially since the Brits will be bringing along their bigger and more dangerous brother - the U.S. Navy.

Ah yeah, of course. When the USSR is already down you've got nothing better to do than either trying to invade one of the Allies across the sea, or fighting over their scraps in colonial Africa.

Which, indeed, bogs down your troops to no end. Second-rate theatres like Africa are better left to the Italians.
