New Paris blaze kills at least 12
At least 12 people have been killed and several injured in the third deadly fire in Paris in less than two weeks.

The blaze occurred early on Sunday in a 15-storey building in L'Hay-les-Roses, south of the French capital.

The apartment building was not used to house immigrants - as was the case in last month's fires in the city.

Sunday's blaze began in the entrance hall, reports say. It was quickly put out but fumes killed people, firefighters told AP news agency.

It is not known how the fire started.

It was quickly put off by some 160 firefighters, but people were mainly killed by the fumes, according to officials.

At least 13 injured have been taken to hospitals in the area.

One woman gave birth at the scene right after being rescued, and was then taken to hospital with her baby.

The building dates back to the 1970s, but had been recently renovated.

Demands

The blaze came only a few hours after thousands of people marched through Paris in protest at the two previous fires - which killed many African immigrants.

The protesters demanded better housing.

The French authorities have been criticised for housing poor immigrants in inadequate accommodation

The march began at the site of the first fire in Paris' 13th district, in which 14 children and three adults died on 26 August.

Seven people died in a similar blaze in a dilapidated building four days later.

Sunday's fire was the fourth in less than five months in the Paris area.

In April, 21 died when a fire destroyed a budget hotel in the centre of the city.
God, I guess that little tiwt on FOX got his wish.

What a summer.

France has been particularly hot & dry in recent summers. In a few decades, it may be positively arid :(

This summer has been quite cold actually. It's a bit hot these days, but August has been below 30 °C, and easily. Don't understand why so many burnings are happening NOW.

Well i dont know about paris, but here in south east england, this year we've had very little rain. If everything is bone dry already, it doesnt take scorching temperatures for fires to spread quick.
Shame indeed, but as long as we dont see hundreds of fires start the firemen should be able to cope.

Hmm, speaking of little rain, this spring and summer for us had very little rain, and it's only now that it's getting more moist.
