Partisans and Fanatics

I never build either. They do, however, have special abilities that can be useful in scenario design, so it's not really a bad thing that they were included. Also when I first got the game (probably five or six years ago by now) they were great fun to experiment with because neither had been in Civ I.

I don't build them but I have bought a few on the cheap from the barbs, and use them to fight there old buddies.

???
Build partisans?
I thought that if your city was taken over, you got four or five free, automatically...?

I build them everywhere when in a war, and simply swarm every oppent, pillaging all roads. Fanatics are good beacause they are cheap, strong in numbers, and there is no support cost.

I bet the fundy fanatics will all vote for the utterly useless fanatic  :p

Tanks and mech inf are the way to go, but fanatics can be useful. they are cheap and quick to build, just the unit for a quick garrison in a freshly captured city, or to block easy access to your lightly guarded areas until the real combat units arrive. and no support required. If your not in fundy, partisans can be useful for the same purpose, but they are really just to give you a chance to recapture a lost city cheaply.

Ok, firstly, I don't build either, but I like to use partisans when I gain them from a city loss

And secondly, I don't build fnatics because I never go fundy (well, not in a serious game anyway) Or is there some way to build them under another government? (Namely Commmunism)

;)

There is only 2 ways to get fanatics that I'm aware of: bribe em, or go to fundy and build em. If there is another way, I'd like to hear about it.

I don't use fundy much anymore, but sometimes, just for fun, I like to switch to it, and flood the world with howitzers and tanks just to satisfy the old "bloodlust".....:satan:

I never build them, since:
1) I never research fundamentalism. I'm rather a "tech racer" :)
2) There are more powerful units.

Actually the only times I get partisans are when the AI capture one of my cities... then they appear automatically. But I never waste my time building them, I just prefer spending resources and shields on wonder or building.

I only manufacture some Partisans if I need to make infiltrations and I don't have Spys or similars.

About Fanatics, I only use them when I have a war very defenssive where the number of units to loose in enemy attacks are high,

The fanatics are the best to garrison freshly captured cities, and partisans are very useful because they can take and defend cities which you have emptied one way or another that a Mech. Inf. couldn't get to because ZoC from enemy field units got in its way.

I never use either of them. They can't fight worth ****. I'll stick to howitzers, tanks, mech inf, fighters and bombers. :)

Hey Darius, saw that you're from St.Paul. I lived there for a year. Loved it! :) What's the weather like in good old Minnesota at the moment? ;)

They cant fight worth s***, but the partisans are good for ducking between enemy units to sneak into the cities your big stuff has emptied.

The weather here sucks. We literally had about two weeks of both cold and snow throughout the whole winter, while the rest was just one or the other or neither, which is bad for an avid skier. Then, in the start of March, there was one icestorm and two blizzards coincidentally in the week I was on vacation, so from my persepctive January, February, and March were all spring. I probably lost 300 bucks I could have made shoveling.

If you are planning to use partisans for their ignoring ZOC function then it's best to use them with a big tank. You move the partisan to the space where you want in, then click Wait in the orders, move the tank on top of it, click Wait again and then continue like this until you have a free shot at the town without using ZOC. Of course, you can use spies or dips to do this too and they have a far better "attack" than the partisan does, provided you've got enough cash.

oh, I agree, I use partisans and spies to clear the road for better units as well, but I was only taliking about when the city's already been emptied.

Automatic partisans are nice to have if the enemy totally wasted his attack force on capturing the city and only one little duffed-up mech infantry is fortified within it. :D

Fanatics are good if you want to recreate that 'mad suicidal zealot' feeling by sending 10 of them to attack a heavily fortified enemy city. :)

I prefer Alpine Troops & Marines :ak47:
But if the barbs use em, I'll bribe em. I then disband them when they've all been killed. Hey, U can afford it at that stage in the game!
